Sunday Lunch at Romero Pools

Come out and join me on this beautiful hike to Romero Pools.  This is a fun intermediate hike with lots of spectacular views.  We will hang out at the pools for lunch before returning.   And those of you that are adventurous can jump into the pools.  Plan on at least 4 to 5 hours from the start of the trailhead until we return.

Many beginners underestimate how tough this hike can be.  Some have been unable to finish the hike. Beginners are welcome, but you must be fit.  If you are not sure if you ready for this hike, go ahead and sign up and then talk to me about it.

Type: Out-and-back.
Elevation gain: 1500 ft
Length: Approximately 5.5 miles.

To save on entrance fees to the park ($7 per car), we will meet at the Chase Bank across the street from the entrance to Catalina State Park at 9:45 AM.   We will be departing Chase Bank at 9:50, so please be on time if you want to carpool.  For those going directly to the park, the carpoolers should be at the parking lot at the end of the park road by about 10 AM.

What to bring:

  1. A couple of dollars to pay for the entrance fee (if carpooling from Chase)
  2. At least 2 liters of water.
  3. Lunch and Snacks
  4. Sunscreen
  5. Camera (optional)

Beautiful hike, my first in Catalina Park. I enjoyed the group. It reaffirms my opinion that hikers are the best people!

Couldn't there be another " staggered one " there are so many on the wait list!?

I have a state park pass and can take two additional passengers. I'll be at the Chase location in a red Prius.

Bill. If you still have space for two Kathy and I would appreciate a ride, we'll be driving a red Honda CRV

Don -- Another meet-upper warned me the system would bump a me to the wait list if I removed a plus one from a sign up. I'm wondering if I can add a plus one to the already long wait list without getting bumped myself here though. I just heard from an out-of-town friend who's making a last-minute visit to Tucson; and I'd bring him along if . . . . maybe considering Vicki's formative second hike . . . a space opens up for your 10:00 hike. So, can I add a plus one to the wait list without jeopardizing my existing spot?

Hi Mary. Sorry to tell you this, but you would jeopardize your spot. That's because the system won't allow more than 15 people. You would be pushed to the wait list until 2 spots opened up. The chances of that are very slim. I wish I could accommodate you and your friend, but I don't want to violate forest service regulations. Have you ever hiked Romero on your own? It's an easy trail to follow. It would be a great hike for your friend. You could consider dropping out and going with Vicki or just going with your friend.

Thanks, Don. I'll stick with my plan to hike with this group. I'm sure my friend can find something else to do that morning. :-)

    Hi all,
I understand that this hike is full, however I will hike anyway. I do have a year pass if anyone would like to join me who is on the wait list. Call and lv a message at[masked] so we can set it up. We can go earlier as to not over crowd the others

Vicki, the system automatically moves people to the "yes" list when someone drops out.
