Play Jazz!

Let's get together and play some music. Here's a list of some tunes we'll be working on:

Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars/Corcovado (concert C)

How Insensitive/Insensatez (concert D minor)

Footprints (concert C minor)

Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise (concert F minor) - Delia will bring this

It's highly recommended that you bring a copy of The Real Book (Sixth Edition). You're also free to bring any other music (maybe even your own compositions?) you'll want to read through.

We'll be in Studio C at The Studio. http://thestudio.org/REHERSAL/reherse.html

These studios run anywhere from $38-$66 for all three hours, so please bring a few dollars to help defray the expenses.

Note the RSVP end date - this is in place so I know how many people are coming (and thus, which room to reserve).

Please RSVP only if you will definitely be there.

Jeremy, do you have Vol. II? Could you make copies of it? The notation looks more accurate than it does in the scribd version.

I just have the song memorized, I assumed it was in volume six (I either have five or six). Sorry!

Marty, awesome! I'm excited to try this out. Unfortunately, I can't open .xps files, so if you could print out the tenor part for me, that would be great.

For everyone else, if you didn't receive an email, check out Marty's arrangement here: http://www.meetup.com/tuneup-ny/files/

I made an arrangement for the winds for Take the A Train (I'm no Sammy Nestico but it might be more interesting than all playing the melody). I posted parts for alto, soprano, tenor sax, and clarinet in the files section (in MS XPS format, if you can't print your part let me know and I'll do something).

Does everyone have the ability to print charts? Not strictly jazz, but...

Nick: May I try Softly, as in a Morning Sun Rise, in the transposed key of F Minor. (The transposed chart was handed out last week).

    Thanks.

Glad you like it! I just learned on the web that it came from 1928 operetta called "New Moon" by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II and for male singer (tenor). The tune was popularized by Artie Show's 1938 album. Interesting! A lot to learn ...

    Added!

Mics are available, though you may not need one. Nobody plays especially loud.

I'm going to scrap the listed tunes in favor of new ones. Please feel free to comment here if you want any tunes to be added.
