Play Jazz!

Let's get together and play some music. Here's a list of some tunes we'll be working on:

(none yet - please leave a comment if you have any suggestions!)

It's highly recommended that you bring a copy of The Real Book (Sixth Edition). You're also free to bring any other music (maybe even your own compositions?) you'll want to read through.

We'll be in one of the studios at The Studio. http://thestudio.org/REHERSAL/reherse.html

These studios run anywhere from $38-$66 for all three hours, so please bring a few dollars to help defray the expense.

No problem. I'll be bringing both. Jay, bring a guitar if that's your other Axe. Do you have any issues with five strong or fretless?.

    • Jay V

Five string, sure, though I play a standard fretted four string (a G&L JB-2). Fretless is something like to try sometime. It's easy enough to bring both a bass and an archtop, though.

Jay, unless Paul tells us he's not coming we have a bass player. So bring your guitar. There will be three guitarists, which is fine.

OK. I'll probably be a little later than 3 PM. Also, I assume there are amps but not cables?

Had to un-rsvp for today. Marty, you'll be drumming for the entire set.

    Hi everyone.
I see we have two drummers coming on Saturday. If one of you would like to bring some percussion, or rent something at the studio ($10, for which we can all pitch in), then you both can play on every tune if you wish.

here is a list of tunes that are considered essential for beginners ; footprints, satin doll, doxy, autumn leaves,so what or impressions, summertime, song for my father ,maiden voyage, silver's serenade, cataloupe island, sugar, watermelon man.these tunes provide a good foundation to build on and most open jam sessions know these tunes so its a good idea to memorize the melody the chord progression and the scales that are attached to these tunes

    Hi everyone.
I booked room F (same as last time) for this weekend's jam.
For new members, it's at The Studio, 251 West 30th Street, between 7th and 8th avenues, on the third floor.
We use The Real Book, edition 6. But you can bring in lead sheets for songs not in the book.
Please call or text me [masked]) or post a message here if you signed up and can't make it.
