The Lion King "Pre-Meetup"

UPDATE: PRE-MEETUP

http://oldnickholborn.co.uk/

Nearest tube station: Chancery Lane or Holborn

As I suggested, it is more practical if we have a meetup before the meetup (if you know what I mean).

So if we meet at this pub and discuss possible group bookings/and/or other musical ideas, whilst also enjoying each other's company and getting to know everyone, then it would be a great ice breaker for the show.

So come on down to Holborn (my area) and enjoy a few pints. We can talk about musicals (and any other topic) to our hearts content.

See you there!

Footnote:

If anyone wants to meet regarding the Billy Elliot deal (there are tickets for next week available) then I would be happy to meetup this weekend.

My email is [masked] . Hope to hear from you!

I have a confession to make. I LOVE musicals. Yeah yeah, I get the same comments when I tell people that I drink cider, not beer.

I digress.

Thinking it would be great to get a group of twenty somethings together and go to either a West End Musical and/or Theatre Production.
We could perhaps got to a matinee to save pounds or get some kind of group booking at a cheap price (I will research and get back to the group).

I'm going back home soon so thought I would take this opportunity to see one or two great productions whilst in this great city.

Anyone?

I will be wearing a beanie with the South African colours if you can't find me.

I'm up for any show really! I think a group booking would be the most ideal :) I'd prefer billy elliot as I just love that show, but I haven't seen Lion King in a few years so that one would be cool too. I'll be there regardless of what show it is! Ha

Ahh I know Simon, I've been awful! ha! I'll definitely be making this meet up on Tuesday though :)

I'm definitely up for seeing the lion king as booking it as a group but unfortunately cannot make the pre-meetup.

    February 10

  • Christian B.

I can't make it on Tuesday, but I'd love to come along to the musical itself, if at all possible... :)

    February 9

  • Simon

My last comment (hopefully). Come to the pre-meetup... all questions will be answered ;)

Reminder: I'm hoping to book as a group, so if you can make it it will be very beneficial to you.

Had no idea this existed! Is The Lion King the winner of the vote? I've been wanting to see it or Book of Mormon for a while :)

    February 9

  • Thay

Hi, I'm excited about this pre meetup, I think it is a good idea, does anyone have a contact number since I am coming alone and won't know which people in the pub are from this group. Thanks,

    Thay

I won't be able to attend Tuesday's meeting but I'd like to see Book of Mormon!

    February 8

  • heather

I'm not able to attend Tuesdays pre meet up, but would love to attend the actual thing, particularly Book of Mormons or The Lion King (as I saw it many years ago, and was right at the top, which wasn't pleasant as I was getting vertigo from the height!). As you mentioned potentially visiting the theatre, I'm also up for seeing The Curious Incident of the Dog and The Drowned Man! Would it be possible to post the outcome from Tuesdays meet up, so that non attendees will be able to get tickets to the decided show etc.?

    February 8

  • Simon

Sorry to change the date, there just was not enough time to get everyone together for a Friday performance.... Hope everyone can make Tuesday!

    • Simone C.

Hi, unfortunately I'm unable to make the pre-Meetup Meetup, but hopefully I can make the Meetup! I trust you all totally with what decisions you make & look forward to meeting for the musical!

keep an eye out on lastminute.com too who do deals every so often. Atm there's 10 pound tickets to see spamalot advertised

Thanks for the info Eric :)

      February 6

  • Simon

Another idea I had was if we had a pre-meetup meetup (as surreal as that sounds :p) if anyone is keen? It would be a practical way to organise a group booking if we made that decision.

    4 · February 4

    • Simon

      Please see above ;)

      February 6

  • Simon

Okay, so we have the following options:

    a) Either we book as a group (more than 15 people) and get a discount (cheapest tickets 31.50).

    b) Or we book individually for more expensive tickets.

    c) Or we take a chance by going to the box office on the day and get super cheap tickets. If we take the option of a group booking (which is the best idea since there are great discounts) it is most likely that the week after the 17th - 23rd Feb would be best.
This is due to the fact that the preceding week is half term and there are no discounts whatsoever.

So, the date 14th is a pre-meetup or where we are actually are going to the musical??!

      February 5

    • Simon

Hi Diana, I updated the details

      February 6

  • William

Hi i would like to go see the lion king but would like to sit next to someone from the meetup because it will be more enjoyable and you can socialize at the interval, is there way we could do that Simon?

    1 · February 5

    • Simon

Hi William, that was my aim from the beginning. The only way we can make sure that we all sit together is if we book as a group, so let's discuss on Tuesday ;)

      February 6

  • Simon

On a side note, I discovered a deal for Billy Elliot which may appeal to a lot of musical enthusiasts:

It's a two-course meal at Pizza Express and a ticket to Billy Elliot all for 38.50 (cheaper ticket price).

    http://www.atgtickets.com/shows/billy-elliot-the-musical-top-price-ticket-and-a-2-course-meal-at-pizza-express-only-66-for-top-price-and-3850-for-third-price/victoria-palace/

This would be a great meetup also if anyone is interested ;)

    • Abi

Would love to see Billy Elliot as already seen the Lion King!

      2 · February 5

    • Simon

As I mentioned above, if anyone wants to meet on the weekend so as to discuss Billy Elliot send me a message ;)

      February 6

  • Corinne

I'm happy seeing the lion king on which ever date offering discounts as a group :)

  • Joel C.

I voted for the Lion King, but I know Spamalot lets you in for free if you're dressed as a knight.

    2 · February 1

  • Thomas

So you still haven't decided on a date yet?

Voted for book of mormon but wouldn't mind seeing les mis after watching the movie

  • Samar N.

I'm a huge theatre fan and have seen pretty much every show in the west end... Several times each! Haha! (Well the ones I liked anyway) :p So I'm up for anything. Wicked and Billy Elliot are my favourites. The Commitments is the only current west end musical I haven't seen so that would be cool to see. This is a fab idea, by the way!

(Matilda do £5 dayseats for anyone under 25) - just a random bit of info I thought other 20 somethings might find useful :p

    Matilda?

    • Imogen C.

That's very good! I've seen it twice & really enjoyed both performances

      January 28, 2014

  • Simon

Great response so far :) thank you for your comments. I have created an online poll, feel free to vote so I can get a rough idea of what most people would like to see.
Keeping the results of the poll (and your comments) in mind I will then check with the relevant theatres regarding group booking or other deals etc..

I'm hoping to do more than one of these (if everything goes smoothly) so do not despair if we chose something you have seen as the first musical ;)

    1 · January 28, 2014

    • Simon

Hi Diana :), unfortunately I couldn't make a poll where one can vote more than once, so if you leave a comment here mentioning other musical(s) fee free to do so ;)

      1 · January 28, 2014

    • Simon

Regarding the date, it will depend on the feedback I get, and the best deals I can arrange also..... (essentially as soon as possible, since I'm not in London for long)

      1 · January 28, 2014

Definitely keen! Lion King and Book of Mormon in particular :-)

    Some ideas:
    The Commitments
    Jersey Boys
    We Will Rock You
    The Book Of Mormon
    Mamma Mia!
    The Phantom of the Opera
    Spamalot
    The Bodyguard
    Les Miserables
    Billy Elliot
    Wicked
And of course, The Lion King

(Out of this list, I have seen Billy Elliot before ....I would seriously see it again as it was mind blowing)
