Bi-weekly show-and-tell/discussion

7/23 6:30p, Oxboro Library Meeting Room (8801 Portland Ave S)

We're trying out the idea of recurring, bi-weekly R meetups. We'd like to make these very open/show-and-telly. Just comment on this meetup if you have something to discuss. Then just come and show the group!

I'll update the agenda prior to the meetup based on comments below and discussion from previous meetups.

This is the last of five bi-weekly meetups to try out the idea that originated in the discussion boards. I'm thinking we'll start a discussion post after this meetup or the one on 7/9 to collect feedback. That could lead to tweaking the format, perhaps scheduling a new set on a different day/time, etc. From there we can schedule another batch!

Stimulating, and Erik kept it flexible to accommodate different levels of experience.

Nice "day in the life" of an R data analyst/statistician/modeller.

I also am interested in setting up workspaces in RStudio. I have mixed my tutorials, personal, and Kaggle stuff in one workspace and need to sort it out. Just a thought.

I would be curious to see a demo of downloading the SQLite version of the Kaggle Diabetes competition data and bringing it up in R using RSQL or the sample code on the Kaggle site. I have to say that I am getting what seem to be parity errors in opening the database so I don't want anyone to spend a lot of time on this, in case the file is corrupted.

I was going to just cover a typical exploratory analysis cycle for me. Reading data into R (from flat file or web?), common R functions used to investigate data quality, scatterplots, etc. Won't take the whole time, so discussion of future topics is definitely a good idea.

I know it's a bit late, but does anyone have anything they'd like to talk about tonight?

If not, perhaps we can brainstorm a list of future topics as I plan on starting a new discussion for feedback on day of the week/time/location after this meetup. From there we can set up more bi-weekly's if the group feels like it's been beneficial.
