I generally host a couple comedy or wine meetups a month. In addition, assistant organizers can list events and I'm happy to make general members event hosts. I encourage people to come up with ideas and to list and host events.
Most comedy events will consist of a pre-show cocktail hour or dinner where we can all meet and introduce ourselves; a live show; followed by coffee/drinks/dessert/discussion/planning/whatever afterward. Typical venues are Joke Joint (standup), Acme (standup), Huge (long form improv), and Brave New Workshop (sketch).
I've been doing more wine events lately just because I've gotten a little burned out on standup and organizing something like BNW with group tickets can be a pain. Examples of wine events are: wine bars, restaurants with a nice wine list, house parties, and wine buses. Occasionally I'll do something quasi educational like a get a sommelier or other knowledgeable wine person to talk.
Though the group name is Comedy and Wine, sometimes I just do shit I want to do that doesn't have anything to do with wine or comedy other than maybe people laugh at me when I drink. Examples are restaurants near me, breweries, maybe even a road trip.
Because we are a group, we can often get discounts. In the past, we've had substantial discounts at Brave New Workshop, Huge, Joke Joint, New Century, Acme, and others. I will continue to look for bargains and discounts because I know it's a lot easier to laugh or drink when you're saving money.
Your suggestions are always welcome.
Hope to see you soon.
