Margarita Fest 2 - Revenge of the Worm

It's back.  Bigger and better than ever.  Margarita Fest 2: Revenge of the Worm.  Catch it at a party room near you.

The last party was a success.  No broken furniture.  No blood.  No cops (despite what Dennis might have you believe).  So let's do it again!

I've rented out the clubhouse at my apartment complex starting at 5.  The place has a big open space, tables, chairs, large counter, and a huge fridge.  I don't think the pool will still be open, but we can use the pool area.  Shouldn't be any kids this time.

Like last time, I'll take care of the margaritas and tequila, and, as before, I could use a second blender.   In addition, I'll be picking up a few bottles of premium tequila for special shots.  And for rehydration, I'll have some bottled water and soda (pop for you Minnesotans).  If you want something else to drink that I didn't just list, bring it, otherwise, I got it covered.

Like last time, we'll have shared snacks, appetizers, desserts, etc., so bring some food to share.  There aren't aren't any grills nearby, but there is a microwave.

We don't have to be out until 2AM, so if you want to come later, that's fine.  I expect there will be early people, late people, and a few both early and late people.

No one has to drive home.  You're welcome to crash at my place.  I know people say that and then get all weirded out when someone actually takes them up on it.  Not me.  I'm weirded out already.  So you got nothing to worry about.  It's not the Hyatt, but I've got a couple couches, an inflatable bed, and an extra bathtub (it's not really a party unless someone wakes up in a bathtub).

There is a cost to this.  I have to pay for the party room, tequila, mixers, fruit, ice, paper plates, cups, etc.  Therefore I'm asking for a $10 donation to the Save my Liver Foundation.  You can just give it to me, the foundation's CEO, president, and charter member.  This donation is not tax deductible (though it should be).

One last thing, if anyone wants to stay late and help clean, that would be totally awesome and I will make you an honorary member of the SmLF.  It shouldn't be hard work, just pick up bottles and trash, wipe down counters, and move the furniture back.

I found a plastic storage thingy with a kinda black lid (black with clear center you can look in through). It had pita bread in it, which I ate. It's now clean and sitting in my dish rack. If you want it back, identify yourself, and I'll bring it to the next thing I see you at. Or you can stop by, if it's really important to you. Like maybe you inherited it from Great Great Grandma Rubbermaid.

I won't name names, but we locked up with 2 guys passed out on the couch. There was also someone who fell in love with the bathroom floor. We killed almost all the tequila. I collected almost exactly the amount I spent. I got my damage deposit back. No one got sick, and as far as I know, no one got arrested.

All and all, not a bad party.

Special thanks to those who helped out Dana and Kimber cleaning, Dana and Larry making margaritas. Dana and Larry helping set up. And a bunch of other people doing stuff I can't remember.

I hope the new people weren't scared off. Sorry if I didn't get around to say hi to everyone individually.

I'm not complaining... and I'm not bragging... but somehow I did not end up with a hangover or puke.... Not even after mixing the Cafe tequila and Rumchata..... Which really is an interesting combination....

The worm survives. I woke up to find an inch of mezcal with a worm floating in it.

I'll be closer to 8, I'm just heading out on a 30 mile bike ride. Darn rain and wet trails pushed my ride back. I was thinking of biking over to your place. But biking home drunk doesn't sound very appealing!

I forgot that a dance gig got scheduled for this evening. I would like to still come, but don't know if I should drive there, drink, drive, and dance. Hmm. I am not normally wishy-washy, but will be on this one, which shouldn't affect your tequila portioning, as I won't touch the stuff!

HI ed. I'm in Bryn Mawr. What time are you going?

      September 28, 2013

  • Gary

I changed the start time to 6. I had it at 5:30 from the prior margaritafest because I wanted to take advantage of daylight and the pool. We probably won't be using the pool on this one - though the last I checked, it still had water in it.

So the plan (to the extent there is one) is:
    Margaritas start at 6.
Tequila bar opens at 8 and on the hour every hour after that.

Right now I have full bottles of Don Julio Anejo, Don Julio Blanco, Patron XO Cafe, and a little bit of Milagro Resposado. I plan to have a mezcal (with the worm), and maybe 1 additional tequila.

This plan is totally subject change according to my whim and fancy.

Ambiguity raises its ugly head (or does it?). Someone last night said "why should I get there before 8 if there isn't tequila before that". So to be perfectly clear - there will be tequila before 8. There will be tequila starting at 6. It will just be hiding in a margarita.

I know I've said this before, but this being Minnesota, you have to say things 3 times before anyone can accept. If you can't drive home, you can crash on a couch here. I have no problem with that. I won't silently judge you (another MN thing, but I've not from here, and I don't do anything silently, if you're judged, you'll know it). The only thing I ask is don't hurl on my couch. I have a lovely toilet for that. My toilet is AA approved, and I've even installed handgrips on the sides just to make it easier for you.

Speaking of AA, here's a suggestion from a pro. You don't have to stay all night. Just crash a couple hours until the room stops spinning, then sneak out and go home. You wake up in your own bed. You don't get a DUI. Your neighbors don't see you coming home in the same clothes you left in. And you don't have to deal with stupid questions in the morning (which I would never ask) like "so, did you have a good time last night?).

Howdy! Is anyone from around the Lake Harriet area (I'm a little south of it) that would want to carpool? I've got a weakness for tequila so I figure it's either carpool or get a room haha.

    September 23, 2013

  • Chris H.

You sound like a fun host. I'm gonna bring some craft beers to share. Maybe a social boardgame to play. Don't drink the worm.

    September 23, 2013

    • Gary

Craft beers are good. Might help make a good tequila chaser. As to the board game, you can bring it, but I doubt it will get played. They're kind of too stationary. Now Twister might have shot.

      1 · September 23, 2013

  • Gary

    Two things:
    1) Keep your RSVP updated. Normally it doesn't matter so much for a party, but since I'm buying the booze, I need to know how much to get.
    2) If anyone needs to crash there are a couple options. There are 2 hotels that you could walk to. The Days Inn is $63, maybe less with AAA or other discount. The Comfort Inn is a few dollars more. Or you can crash at my place. You'll have a choice of 2 couches or an inflatabed. It's not a big place, but it's clean, the couches are comfy (I know, I sleep there when Snuggles gets mad), the price is right, and it's sure better than a jail cell (I'm not going to say how I know that).

    • Trish

Would ya please start deleting HABITUAL RSVP'r who NEVER. Show? o_O

      September 22, 2013

    • Gary

The people who never show aren't a problem. I just don't count them. It's the people that sometimes show and sometimes don't. They're the ones that mess up the headcount.

I have to cancel. Something came up.

    September 20, 2013

  • Gary

I decided to pick up some premium tequila and maybe some mezcal. This is, after all, the Revenge of the Worm. So you gotta have a worm. To cover this plus pop, water, room rental, and margaritas, I upped the contribution from $7 to $10. Still the cheapest bar in town.

Gary, thank you so much for throwing me a birthday party! Very kind of you. But,on the list of things to bring, you forgot to add a gift for Denise. I'm not picky, I'll take cash or wine so no need to spend a lot of time shopping. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I NEVER said there was a COP at your last party. Yes I DID POST a picture of a Plymouth Cop car, but I never said there were cops there. Now that said... don't the cops ONLY go to the BEST PARTIES?
