This ride is for intermediate riders (sports bikes with and itch will definitely be an advance course).
This is the mountain path that connects Tecate and Mexicali, in Baja California Norte.
According to the locals “la carretera esta enbrujada”, several urban stories about ghost apparitions haunts the path….the most predominant the myth of Nurse Eva’s spirit who died traveling through the mountains help a sick person. The howling noise made when the wind comes down the mountain is part of the myth.
This howling noise is also called “las colas del diablo” (the devil's tail), whispering gusts of wind responsible for the cars graveyard at the bottom of the cliffs.
The path itself is only about 12 miles long in each direction, the elevation is about 4000 feet and the road is one way up and one way up, I have heard some people compare the tightness of curves to Palomar.
We will probably do Smuggler’s Run to the Tecate border and work ourselves down the path and back up then head back to Tecate and over the border.
Traveling to Mexico requires travel documents such as a United States Passport or similar documentation. One day insurance is available on line.
