Maybe you've done the so-called "Basic 18" in the Slow Waltz. Or maybe you have yet to do so.
The Basic 18 is the informal name that some dance teachers came up with to call the 4 figures in the International style of dancing that every beginner must know to survive on the dance floor.
In this 4-week course, starting Jan. 5, you will cover this again...fairly quickly and then move on to other figures to add some splash to the "18".
For those who have no idea about the Slow Waltz, this is an elegant smoothies-type dance -- very romantic-- that is danced to the musical sentence of "1,2,3" beats in a bar of music.
(By the way, you don't normally hear this type of music on the radio. Slow Waltzes are played in the "Ballroom dance places" in Toronto, along with other Ballroom dance music, of course. To give you the opportunity to use these skills, we go the West-Way Club in Etobicoke once a month--the next time will be Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.)
To move along faster around the ballroom dance floor, you will learn at least 3 new figures on top of the "18" and a new better, more elegant way of turning around the 4 corners of the room.
