uDare – Everest Base Camp Trek

5th-20th April 2014 – £874 !!!

This trip is being run jointly with our sister uDare group in Sydney

The biggest one!

We searched long and hard to create a magnificent 16 Day trip to Nepal, which included a 12 day Himalayan trek to Everest Base Camp!

It was such a great success in 2013 that it MUST be repeated in 2014.

... if you're EVER going to do this, the time is NOW!

A direct approach to the foot of the world's highest mountain - Mount Everest. A trek designed to get you right up next to the 'mother of all peaks'!

Mount Everest Base Camp has been a popular destination for trekkers since the very first expeditions to the Nepalese side of Everest in the 1953. To reach this part of the Himalaya within a limited time, we have chosen this two week trek to Everest Base Camp which runs directly to and from Lukla.

The Everest Base Camp trek, a very well known mountain trek, starts at the upper Phakding and follows the Dudh Kosi valley which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, a bustling bazaar that’s a junction for trekkers, the local Sherpa and expeditions en route to the mighty Mt. Everest.

Our route combines simple but comfortable accommodations with great hiking and must-see sites such as magnificent Tengboche Monastery and bustling Namche Bazaar while still allowing enough time to venture off the beaten path in favor of more remote and secluded villages seldom visited by most trekkers. Explore Khumjung, where Sir Edmund Hillary helped build the region's first school and whose monastery houses a mysterious relic – might it actually be the skull of the mythical Yeti? Trek onward to Thame, home to one of the region's oldest monasteries which appears to grow directly out of the mountainside. Trekking through these hidden Sherpa villages is like hiking through time as we experience daily life in these remote agricultural outposts as it has existed in many ways unchanged for decades. Then, trek higher through vast rhododendron forests and enter Tengboche Monastery, the largest and most active in the region, where evening brings the strange and hypnotic sounds of traditional chant, thundering drums and the great resounding horns of the 40+ devout Buddhist monks who live, study and worship here. Throughout our trek we encounter spectacular views of Mount Everest and other legendary Himalayan peaks before ultimately returning to Kathmandu, where we have even more time to discover the gentle and colorful Buddhist and Hindu cultures of this magnificent and ancient city. Experience the awe-inspiring presence of the world's highest peaks and soak in the magic of Nepal and the Everest region.

This trip was beyond epic, incredible fun and blew my mind with what we saw - you know it's something amazing when I stop talking for a more than a minute. Hey guys, i mentioned in the last email not to pay more than US$5 for the taxi. After being here i now know that price is for the unoficial random ones outside. Get a pre-pay professional one at the airport exit (inside the building), which is $6-7 ;-)'s a fantastic view on the flight in..and an interesting taxi ride.

Also guys..just to prepare you.. the visa checkpoint is a bit burocratic. You join one queue to pay and then join the back of another queue to get it processed. Took me abour 90 mins to get through the airport...chill! ;-)

Hi All - not long to go now. Reena and I looking forward to it. If anybody is up for grabbing a pint in London before we go, we're up for meeting - discussing gear, etc

    • Helen

      Hi Nish,
It appears I'm arriving at Kathmandu at the same time as you and Reena. I'm hoping that my battery won't fail me so maybe we can meet to share the taxi...?

Hi all, where's the hotel and what time's the transfer to the hotel please? I'm arriving in to Kathmandu, Nepal, Tribhuvan International at 11:45 this Saturday (5th). What's the plan from there? I couldn't see any details on this yet. Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, we're staying at the Eco Hotel in the heart of the city. Our group are flying in from London, Kuwait, Sydney, Brisbane & Delhi over two days so I don't think we'll probably just advise getting a taxi from the airport (cost should be no more than £5 equiv). Have only just received final flight confirmations so am checking to see if we should arrange a couple of minibus runs. Will confirm in the next 48 hrs ;-)

  • Pete M.

Any recommendations as to how much cash we should take for the trek and what size denominates?

    March 22, 2014

    • Wolf

Hi Pete, spending money should easily be under £100 (not including Porter/guide tip - see event details for that). Maybe take that much or £50 in local currency if you prefer and there is the option to withdraw from cash machines in Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar

      March 30, 2014

  • Pete M.

    Sorry denominations

Can't open this link. Anybody else having problems?

      March 9, 2014

    • Wolf

Hi Nish, thanks for your quick email with flight details. I have replied to that with the doc linked to in this thread attached ;-)

      March 9, 2014

  • Wolf

Also guys, please copy and paste or attach your 'flight itinerary' in an email to [masked] so I can ensure we are properly catered for with transport upon arrival ;-)
Lastly, Nick Bolton is going to try arranging a pre-trip get together for those who can make it to 'get to know' your fellow travellers for this awesome trip and perhaps answer a few questions (as Nick went last year).
I won't be able to make the pre-meet myself as i'll be flying to Nepal from Australia, along with a few others who you'll meet soon enough!
We have a great group going to this. It's gonna be AWESOME!

    Hi all,

Regarding flights to and from Kathmandu
It would be ideal to get your flight times as close as possible to the following....

Arrive Kathmandu 5th April - late morning (local time)
Depart Kathmandu 20th April - mid to late evening (local time)

Any flights around those times are great!

    Wolf

p.s. Fairly early in the new year we'll look to do a little get-together to go over a few things and meet each other ;-)

    November 19, 2013

    • Morisha C.

Hi due to work circumstances I am sadly going to have to drop out of this trip. ;0(
What do I need to do? Where do I stand on money paid to date? I appreciate I have lost my deposit but do I get a refund of the rest of the money paid?
Really sorry as you guys do such a great job of organising.... Next time I will make sure I have work cover before committing.
      Thx
