Hike (15km) the woods and hills around Box Hill, Surrey - Sun 11th Nov

  • Nov 11, 2012 · 9:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for us on this beautiful hike (15km, approx 5 hours) on London's doorstep, around the Box Hill area of Surrey.

It lies within the Surrey Hills 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and is one of the higher summits of the North Downs, offering panoramic views of the western Weald.
We'll take in a really nice variety of leafy (Autumn has come late this year), moody woodlands and ancient heath land along the way.

Click here to check out some photo's from last year's hike

* Event fee includes guided hike. Any travel/food costs are separate

Victoria (Platform 11) is the station. For those meeting here and joining the discounted (around half price) groupsave tickets, MEET OUTSIDE THE MAIN TICKET HALL (next to M&S) around 09:15hrs to catch the 09:38hrs train

The official meeting point is Westhumble train station (FREE parking) for 10:33am

The hike will take approx 5 hours including stopping at the top of Box hill for some tea/coffee and cake so depending on the speed of the group and stopping times, we 'should' catch the 16:18hrs train back to Victoria, arriving back just after 5pm

What to bring:

It's November, be prepared for cold and wet weather..

*Waterproof jacket/trousers

*Hiking Boots

* Packed Lunch/Flask of tea would be good

What a perfect day for my last hike for a while! Fantastic blue sky, warm sunshine, beautiful heaths and woodlands & such a brilliant group of guys made for a great vibe :)

This was definately one of my best ever hikes. Good pace, plenty of hills and a fantastic group. A big thank you to all my fellow hikers for their abundance of patience without murmur and an even bigger thanks to Wolf who, with his outstanding knowledge of the hills in it's complexity, guided me to catch up. Wolf, you have the best people's skills I've come across in a long long time. You are amazing. (Here's a brief outline... despite being at the station on time with ticket in hand I misread the time and decided to pop into M&S thus managed to miss the train) For all you adrenalin junkies, I highly recommend running the route, the first half anyway... It was awesome -:)

Is there anyone coming from Chapman Junction for the groupsaver tickets?

I'm looking for group saver as well why don't we meet up at Victoria at 9:15 and see if there are other two people

I am up for group saver ticket. I can meet you at Victoria. Remember, the M&S location can be confusing as now there's a new M&S in the station next to Nero cafe. We must be meeting the one next to information desk (old location).

Hi, I don't think my payment was processed through paypal system, and missed my chance at the last place left. I may give you a call to see if it went through or not?

Hi everyone, My number is[masked] 911. Call/text me anytime with questions.

I refreshed myself of the route a couple of days ago and some parts were very muddy. After the rain we've had since then, quite a few places now will be very muddy. It's not really dangerous but would be pretty unpleasant wearing trainers!!

There are many of us now, so best just ask the group as you arrive 'who needs groupsave tickets', then form your mini group to go buy it immediately! Official meeting time 09:15 but with the numbers of us now i'd suggest arriving 5-10 mins earlier ;-)

Don't forget to bring some lunch and water. There is nowhere to buy on route (except at Victoria of course).

Weather is looking good but you never know, still best to bring waterproofs.

There will be a gathering of 20+ uDarer's n Browns bar in Victoria, plus any of you guys that want to join me there for a drink after. Would need to change/clean muddy boots for that though ;-)

    Ciao groovers! :)

P.S. I will leave from Muswell Hill just after 9 am if someone living in the area wants a ride.

    Hey everyone,

Just recently joined the group and have never attended a hike around here before.

I don't have proper hiking shoes only runners/joggers - will these shoes be suitable for tomorrow's hike?
