Roseberry Topping, Captain Cook's Monument and The Hanging Stone Hike - 11 miles - £1
Roseberry Toppping was recommended by a few members for a hike so we have devised an 11 mile circular hike incorporating the iconic Roseberry Topping, Captain Cook's Monument and The Hanging Stone to make it a full day out!
The 11 mile hike will cover a variety of scenery including woodland, heather moors....
...fields, the sea and not to mention the staggering views from all three points!!
Those who went on the Flamborough Head hike will find this slighter harder due to the climbs but this is not an extreme hike. The climb up Roseberry Topping (1,050 feet/320 metres), is a steep hike up a stone stepped path and stone tracks. Below is a photo of the summit of Roseberry Topping.
It’s said that 18th-century explorer James Cook, who spent boyhood years at Aireryholme Farm on its slopes, was inspired by his tramps across this mini-mountain. His varied explorations around the world led to a monument built in his honour, Captain Cook's Monument.
We will start at the Voyager pub, have lunch at Captain Cook's monument, finish back at the pub where we can have a well earned rest (and maybe a cheeky drink) before heading home.
As uDare have to pay Meetup to run the group, we will be charging a small fee of £1 to cover the costs. You can do this by paying via paypal for ease (click on pay online option when you RSVP) or pay £1 on the day.
This is about a 1 hour drive from York, heading North towards Middlesborough.
