I wanted to take a moment to talk about funding for Dallas Ukulele Headquarters, and to ask for financial support from those who are able to donate.
First of all, Kathy and I try whenever possible to minimize costs for the club: Restaurants donate their space, materials are downloadable so people can print them out or even just load them on a tablet. We do not “pass the hat” at meetings. Neither Kathy nor I charge for our time, and do this out of a love for the uke and the community which is growing around it. It is important to us that people know our events are free to all who want to play.
Dallas Ukulele Headquarters has now grown to over 600 members, and it is not uncommon for 40 to 50 people to come to an event. We had 65 attend last year’s Christmas Party.
There are some expenses the group incurs. The Meetup site, amplification equipment, decorations, prizes, and other costs associated with making events special. And with the numbers now coming to events, it’s becoming more difficult for us to pay out-of-pocket.
Let me be clear: Dallas Ukulele Headquarters does not charge dues, and is free to all.
This is true for our fundraising too: If you cannot afford to donate, don’t. You are welcome in Dallas Ukulele Headquarters just for your love of uke, and desire to play.
If you are in a good place in your life financially, feel free to help out.
Donations can be sent via PayPal to [address removed]. If you would prefer to donate with cash or checks, you can give those to us at a meeting, or contact us for an address to mail them.
Thanks for your energy, involvement, and support!
