Ultimate Reminders: Jim's Band & Labor Day Cookout

From: Casimir

Hey Everyone,

Just a few quick reminders about upcoming events this weekend (& a few other topics):

Friday - Jim's band (The Jesters) is playing at (Martyr's: 3855 N Lincoln Ave ) around 10 / 10:30, for a one-hour set. The band is "ska-punk," whatever that means. But Jim plays trombone, and lower brass is pretty sweet.

Saturday - Standard game, 10 AM.

Sunday - Standard game, noon.

Monday - 10 AM Cookout! And ultimate! (The grill will probably get going around noon). Dean mentioned the idea of a small tournamentish thing, which seems like it would be kinda fun and give us some set breakpoints.

Also, Brian K (lefty-Brian, drives that blue car) just let me know that he's actually a professional videographer and wants to tape parts of our games to "probably just turn the footage into a "music video" type thing." I think that's an awesome idea. And I think video of games might actually be helpful for skill development. Or maybe not. If for any reason you don't want to be taped, just let me or him know.

Apparently it's still hot sometimes, so remember to stay hydrated. And bugs are still out, so consider bug spray. Also, our weekday games are getting shorter and shorter (due to daylight considerations), so if you want to play more, do your best to show up as early as possible.

Fall League registration is open. The league is run through www.UltimateChicago.org and is a "Bring Your Own Team" format. Although there had been some interest in putting together a team primarily of Busse players, that isn't actually feasible due to gender restrictions. A number of us will be playing, and a bunch more are interested. I'm sure there will still be a few spots left on other teams, so post on the forums / Facebook page linked to at UltimateChicago.org. If you're a girl, you should be able to easily find a spot. If you're not, well, good luck.

Lastly, if you're interested in some neat things regarding the sport of Ultimate in general, check this link out - http://www.usaultimate.org/resources/grants/ - USA Ultimate is providing FREE MONEY for a few specific things. I kinda doubt it will be applicable to any of us, but I feel obliged to send the link. Maybe you can pass it along to someone deserving.

See you on the field,
Caz
