So, I announced it to the 50 people or so we had out today (seriously...3 games of 7-on-7 with 2 subs per side per game, plus a couple...), but we've got three upcoming events in the near future:
- First, this Thursday we're going to Stonewood Ale House after playing (8:30ish? 8:45? 9?) to help celebrate Tabitha's 30th birthday party.
- Lastly, starting Wednesday , 6/13, we're going to start running ultimate practices. Not a game, not a game...not a game. We talkin' 'bout practice (ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGDBR2L5kzI
). Brian McMahon will be the main lead here, with me and probably Jamie supporting. Brian and I both got cut from the club teams we were trying out for, so we're going to take this opportunity to improve our games, as well as the games of anyone else who is interested. Some comments here:
-- Everyone is welcome to attend.
-- You don't have to be a certain "skill level" or "speed" or "have throws as good as ____" or any of that.
-- What you do need to do is be willing to listen, learn, try new things, and be an active participant. If we're doing a drill where you need to cut, we expect you to make hard cuts (whatever that means for you). There will be encouragement and feedback, and probably a bunch of razzing.
-- If we do sprints, and I'm going to tell you right now that I plan on doing sprints, then we expect people to sprint. My vision is for this to be skill development, conditioning, strategy, theory, discussion, practice, all of that sort of thing.
-- The structure will be heavily dependent on who RSVPs and what things they want to work on, within reason, and dependent on field conditions. ("Throwing into the wind" isn't going to get practiced on a calm day, "off-hand push-passes" are probably not going to be a focus area). Personally, one skill I've lost over the past few years, as evidenced in tryouts this season, is dumping to a well-guarded handler while I've got a tough mark on me. I know the basics "Pivot and turn your whole body, look at and commit to one handler, do it early, put it to space, etc." But I don't have that touch, short-range, possibly high-release backhand as well as I'd like to. Do I think we'll drill on this next Wednesday? No. Do I think we'll run at least three drills related to this over the summer? Yes.
-- We'll plan to start at 5:30, probably. More to come on this, probably after this weekend.
Frisbee 5 days / week? Nice!
See you on the field,
