Announcing a new Meetup for Gardening Meetup Group!

What: Hands-On Organic Summer Vegetable Garden Workshop
When: Saturday, June 18, 2011 10:00 AM

Where: Green Street Urban Homestead
848 Green Street
Salt Lake City, UT 84102

Come join the Green Street Garden Gang in the backyard of Babs Isak's home that is in great need of an edible garden rescue.

Did you know that organically grown tomato’s cost as much as $4.00 a pound in Salt Lake? You can grow your own great tasting tomato’s along with cucumbers, squash, peppers, eggplant, beans, swiss chard, melons, salad greens, and herbs that will provide you a continual harvest all summer long.

This hands-on workshop will give you the confidence and knowledge to start your own organic vegetable garden or give you more information on growing your existing vegetable garden. You will learn garden planning, specifically summer crops for Utah gardens, soil preparation techniques, plant spacing, irrigation and organic fertilizing.

The class will begin with a garden tour, followed by a half hour presentation on starting your own organic vegetable garden. Then we will get to work by preparing the soil, planting seeds and seedlings (starter plants). We will end with watering techniques and step by step instructions for on-going care to insure success.

When we are done, we will share food for a potluck lunch, so please feel free to bring something to share.

There will also be complimentary farm fresh eggs for you to take home!

It's time to start planting summer crops! And we can all use some guidance on what works in Utah!”
