kayaking trip down the French Broad

Ready to put those lessons to work? Come and join us on a 4 hour trip down the French Broad. I will be setting this up with the Headwaters Outfitters in Rosman NC. The trip will be 4 hours on the river with a couple of pit stops along the way and lunch at a campground with bathrooms.(outhouses) To sign up for this trip you must have had at least one class, either the one in 07 with Palmetto Paddlers or the ones in June and August with Bob or be an experienced Kayaker. The trip is good for beginners and is flat water with just a few shoals along the way. the outfitter will give a small refresher class, map of the river and river information. The cost to rent all equipment including kayak is $40.00, this includes transportation to put in and back from the take out to the outpost. FOR THOSE WITH YOUR OWN KAYAKS PLEASE MARK ON YOUR RSVP THAT YOU HAVE YOUR OWN. THEY WILL TAKE US TO A PUBLIC PUT IN 1/2 MILE FROM THEIR PRIVATE SITE AND WE PADDLE UPSTREAM FOR 1/2 MILE TO MEET THE REST OF THE GROUP. HOW DO WE GET THE CARS TO THE TAKE OUT, WE SHUTTLE WITH THE OUTFITTERS, WE FOLLOW THEM TO THE TAKE OUT ABOUT 10 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, LEAVE OUR CARS AND FOR &25.00 PER SHUTTLE THEY DRIVE US BACK TO THE PUT IN.

payment for renting the kayak's and shuttle cost will be payable onsite that morning. Do not sent me any money.

You need to bring lunch and water just as we do on hikes.

For the first part of the run there is private lands along the river, we can stop and make pit stops or stretch as long as we stay close to the shore. Planning to stop at Hannah Ford River Adventure campsite/picnic area for a lunch break/snack/pit stop. Than finish the last hour up to the take out which is Island Ford which is past the fourth bridge we pass under. Maps and directions of the river will be given out to us before getting on the river.
