Fall Creek Falls
Long Creek, SC

Length of hike: 2.0 miles
Time to hike: Minimum of two hours to see all levels
Difficulty: Strenuous

NOTE: This is Fall Creek Falls near Long Creek in Oconee County, This is NOT Falls Creek Falls in Greenville County.

The Description from sctrails.net

Description: Fall Creek is aptly named, for it is home to three waterfalls, each roughly 30 to 50 feet high, in a mile-long stretch. The less intrepid among us can enjoy a fine view of the first level just below the west side of FS 722. But if you’re planning to explore the entire Fall Creek chain – including the third level, where the photograph was taken – you’ll need to budget about two hours for the difficult, two-mile downstream hike. There is no marked trail and dense rhododendron thickets blanket each side of the creek.

Height: First level, 35 feet
Second level, 20 feet
Third level, 40 feet

This is a newly scheduled hike, because I needed something to hike this weekend, for those not going to Roan Mt. if you have the time please join us.

The only place to carpool from for this hike will be the Seneca Walmart, as most everyone else from Greenville, will be at Roan Mt. If you could provide a ride or would like to carpool from Greenville just add that to your RSVP

It is about a 30 minute drive from the Walmart to the trailhead and when we are done we can either get fresh apples at a local orchard and/or Ice Cream at the Long Creek Store.

Meet behind the Zaxby's in the Walmart parking lot at 9:15 am.

Note: Trail is there in spots, much bushwhacking needed. Worth the effort, when you are about to give up and turn back go around the next bend and you will find the falls. Will be doing this hike again, as I am sure some others will want it.

Who attended?

  • 5 attendees
    •  Great hike - perfect length/terrain/sights. Our hairy helper ate all my trailmix tho.
    •  Great water falls, we don't need no stinking trail to get there.
    •  Interesting trail with a nice reward at the end. Best done in small groups as one or two spots could be cumbersome to negotiate for a large group.
    •  A great change of pace - technically demanding cross country hike rewarded by spectacular scenery! - and caramel cookie dough ice cream.
