Laurel Valley to Sassafrass Mountain on the Foothills Trail

Laurel Valley to Sassafrass Mountain will be a 10 mile in and out hike. Sassafrass Mountain is the highest mountain in South Carolina. In all honesty, it has one decent view from the top. There are other views along the way. That being said, I like hiking the Foothills Trail. It is well-marked and kept and the portion we've already done on this hike is fairly moderate. The last time we hiked it, we had a very pleasant day. There are several trails that continue down the mountain, one that goes to Table Rock State Park and the other to Gum Gap. It takes about an hour to drive there. This will be an all day hike.

Hike expectations: This will be a moderate to difficult hike and we will try and keep a steady pace of 2 miles covered per hour. We will stop periodically for water breaks as needed and a lunch break at the top.

Everyone meet in the back parking area of Ryan's Family Steak House 6124 White Horse Rd. at 8:45 am to arrange vehicles. We'll leave at 9:00 am.
