2 Hikes, 1 day, 1 place The Chattooga

Ellicott's">Ellicott's Rock Trail:
Length 3.5 miles
Hike Difficulty: Difficult
The trail follows an old roadbed is about 3.5 miles in. Take this trail through a rich pine forest and past several intersecting trails. To reach Ellicott Rock we will ford (walk thru the river probably barefoot or in crocs) the river.

Bad Creek Trail
Length 3.0 miles
Hike Difficulty Moderate
This is a well laid and marked 3 mile trail connecting the Chattooga trail to Bull Pen Road. Following an old logging road we will gradually ascend over a series of switchbacks to return to Bull Pen Road.

There is a short shuttle involved in this hike.
It is a full day event, it maybe be quicker, just plan for a full day

* * * * * * * * * * NOTICE * * * * * * * * * * * * *
If the water is too high to safely ford the river we will return to our starting point, and then the hike will be 7.0 miles with just a difficult rating.
You should bring with you Crocs, Water Shoes or even Sandals to ford the river.
You should also bring a towel to dry off with after the fording.
To test for a safe fording Mike will test the waters first wink
Bring a working Flashlight as the days are short, and you want to be prepared.
A headlamp is highly recommended.

ALWAYS BRING WATER AND SOMETHING TO EAT.

Gas Expense: Seneca 6.00 (Rough Estimate)

If you want to carpool from sites North of Seneca Please leave a comment with your RSVP to see if anyone else is coming from your area.

We hope to leave the Walmart parking area by 9:00 am so that we can be hiking by 10:30 allowing us to be out of the woods in the early afternoon, before dark

If anyone wants to carpool from Easley, I'll be at the K-Mart parking lot at 8 a.m. and plan to leave there by 8:15 a.m. at the latest. It's on what I think is Route 123 coming from Greenville on the left.

Thank you Bill, explaining the "Kill" and I learned the word "ford" from you also. I had to get the dictionary but I liked to learn the new word and it is fun!!!!

A kill is a creek: Catskill, New York and Pennsylvania: A Dutch map from 1656 calls this area "Kats Kill," kats meaning lions, tigers, cats, etc., and kill meaning stream or creek. from the http://www.netherlands-emba....

    •  Very nice start on 1st day of 2009! Sunny blue sky and white clouds were beautiful and happy not to ford the kill this time but will ford next time in Summer.
    •  Thanks for great hike. A pretty day to be out hiking.
    •  Perfect day in Greenville Sorry I could not get there. Out of town family showed up. Seeyou next time
    •  Great way to kick off 2009; beautiful sun, gentle trail - we promised the river we would be back to cross on a warmer day :) Thanks you guys!
    •  The view to a kill was great but the ford would have been a killer. Settled for fording a small kill.
