Bicycle Ride along the Chattooga

The Chattooga River gets a name change below the Yonah Dam, it becomes the Tugaloo. Home to the Tour de Tugaloo. This is an area that is well suited for Bicycles as the traffic is a minimum and well used to seeing cyclists.

The main road is relatively flat, from a hiking pov it would described as easy, there are other areas nearby with both paved and non-paved very hilly sections.

Having not done this type of event yet, it is also very nice from the point of view as more advanced cyclists are able to spread out and still come back to our gathering place.

You can experience less knee pain, and muscles sore in places that hiking doesn't get to.

This will be more of a fair weather event than our hikes, as an icy skid into the waters is not good for a fine bike. There are both paved and unpaved roads available to ride on.

This will be the area for the first few rides I organize, if you know of another area to ride with similar conditions, you are encouraged to suggest it, new places to explore are always welcome.

Note: I am not quite sure how the car pool will work with this type of adventure yet, That will depend on peoples racks, & bikes.

ALWAYS BRING WATER AND SOMETHING TO EAT.

Everyone meet in Walmart parking area behind Zaxby's 1636 Sandifer Blvd
Seneca, SC 29678 We'll leave at 10:00 am.

Greenville People Include comment on Carpool with RSVP

Sounds like fun but have plans already.

Who attended?

  • 4 attendees
    •  Very persnickety wind but beautiful day and perfect woodsy route for playing with my new road tires and knocking the cobwebs out of my old bike :)
    •  Beautiful area near the river and what once was lake hartwell. Terrain is suitable for beginners (elevation gain is minimal) to advanced.
    •  Wasn't sure what would happen, so it was indeed a surprise when we generated a numerical palindrome in mileage 21.12 John was a big help in resetting up a bike I had assembled not to design specs. (handy to bring an engineer) Will try this again towards the end of feb. Headwinds were a bit strong on the way back.
    •  If you had told me I was going to do 21 miles or hear Susan's road bike whinny with pleasure at the thought of an outing, I would have said 'no way'...But we did :) John, thanks for adjusting my derailleur. My bike was almost happy enough to whinny too.
