This is another one of those I think we'll do 10 or 12 miles on this trail in and out. The descriptions are correct. Not much parking at the other end although there is a little place to park by the 'No Dumping' sign off Route 178. We are going to start in Table Rock State Park for the safety of our vehicles. There seems to be a very pretty waterfall on the trail (check out the Palmetto Conservation link above) and I was told by David a good while ago he thought there would be good Winter views on this trail.

There should not be any hunting on Sunday but I would suggest wearing something bright orange anyway (just in case).

Hike expectations: All my hikes are exploratory. I try to pick trails I've never done before so we can have some variety and see new places together. There are thousands of trails in our corner of NC, SC, and GA so we have plenty to choose from! I expect the difficulty of this hike to be moderate to difficult although you need to take into consideration the distance. This hike will take approximately 6 hours including rest stops and lunch. It will be an all day event. Driving time approximately 45 minutes one way.

HIKING SAFETY TIPS FOR MY HIKES:

1. ALWAYS HIKE BEHIND THE HIKE LEADER. THEY NEED TO MAKE SURE WE MAKE THE TURNS PROPERLY AND THAT EVERYONE IS TOGETHER.

2. WE SHOULD ALWAYS STOP AT INTERSECTIONS AND WAIT FOR EVERYONE TO CATCH UP SO WE DON'T LOSE ANYONE.

3. PLEASE TELL YOUR HIKE LEADER IF YOU START TO FEEL SICK OR NEED TO TAKE A REST. THIS IS NOT ONLY FOR YOUR SAFETY BUT IS ALSO FOR THE GOOD OF THE GROUP.

Suggested Gratuity: $5.00 per person for vehicle gas approximately

Fee: $2.00 entrance fee to park

ALWAYS BRING WATER AND SOMETHING TO EAT.

Everyone meet in the back parking area of Ryan's Family Steak House 6124 White Horse Rd. at 8:45 am to arrange vehicles. We'll leave at 9:00 am.

Thanks to everybody who attended. We had a great hike. Just the right difficulty. Good Winter views. Went off trail to find one of the waterfalls. It looks like it might be one of the waterfalls on Mill Creek but haven't found a name for it. A pretty strenuous up to that one. Someone has suggested a wildflower hike on this trail in the Spring. Not sure we'll redo this one soon but I'll keep the wildflower hike in mind as we get closer to Spring.

Wonderful and tiring hike. Here is a link to my pics. Regrets...I left my SD card for the camera in the laptop...so I only have a few pics from the internal memory and my phone. http://flickr.com/photos/si...

    •  I had a great hike today. This is a nice trail. Sorry that I missed the falls. Another time. I went back to check on the little dog. I was worried he would be hit by a car. A young boy across from the park got him. I was happy and able to drive home. See ya on the next hike.
    •  I had a on wonderful adventure. It was a great hike and pleased about the energy I burned. Off course my legs are sore this morning, but it worth it. The climb to the fall was a blast. Enjoyed meeting everyone. Steve
    •  About thirteen miles (?) Lovely water fall/scramble, well groomed trail but It could be a real chanllege to include Bear Mountain and return all in one day. My feet were ready to rest. Longest hike I was on since joining - but well worth the effort. Thanks!
    •  Nice long hike, with mostly kind ups and downs. Beautiful treesy views and fun waterfalls. Thanks Caroline!!
    •  Interesting winter hike with a few uphills, well maintained trail, and good views of the many hills and valleys.
    •  This was a fun and challenging hike. The most miles I have done yet and under some moderate/difficult level. It was a beautiful day for a hike and the d=side to the falls was great.
