Chauga Bill and Marianna

On this day when most American's are thinking of the Superb Owl, what better way to wait than a short hike. With the trailhead between Pickens & Walhalla, it should be a shorter drive than most of our hikes. Leaving you plenty of time to concentrate on the Superb Owl festivities.

The hike will be 3.5 miles in total.
The book rates it as difficult.

Tamassee Falls is a beautiful waterfall, that we are going to approach from the bottom.
Most of it is country with no trail, but it is fairly level and the walking is easy. There is a rocky area near the base of the falls. Walking time is estimated to be between 2.5 - 3 hours for a round trip.

You will also be able to see an old Rock Smelter on this hike

No Dogs

Meet at the Seneca Walmart at 9:00 am

Gas Gratuity = 4.00

This is a Short day hike.

If you are coming from the Greenville area and would like to find someone to carpool with please add a request when you RSVP.

ALWAYS BRING WATER AND SOMETHING TO EAT.

I'm sorry that I was unable to make it this morning, I really wanted to go, but when my alarm went off this morning I got up and felt really weak and went back to bed, and slept until 12:00! I hope you all are having fun on this beautiful day!

In searching for the Trailhead for this hike, I am beginning to believe it has two names in the books either Lee Falls (State Web site) or Tamassee Falls (highland hiker). It maybe there are two separate falls. They both however have the same directions to the Trailhead, which is the link below http://sctrails.net/trails/... We will find out more on Sunday as we await the Superb Owl, and the test of mettle vs bird

    •  This was my first meetup. I am a beginer hiker and the hike was great. The group didn't run off and leave me as my pace wasn't as good as there's. The leader's were very experanced and stayed with me to answer any questions that I had. All of the people were very nice and I enjoyed them and had a great hike with them. I have already signed up for more hikes and looking forward. I like the fact that Marrianna is planning more shorter hikes for beginners like me . I have three more friends who will join us on the next short hike. The meeting place was very visable and easy to fine. The car pooling was great as to save money on gas.
    •  NIce trail, fun group, perfect setting
    •  Perfect day, perfect hike... (Seems like thems often my thoughts after our hikes!) Much warmer than predicted and nice distance-to-fun ratio for such a short hike. Great length/exertion for those getting over icky headcolds :)
    •  This was my first real hike. It was short enough for me to start. It had a great reward at the top, lunch at the beautiful partly iced water fall. And it was a great group to go with. Thanks all!! I'll be on more outings!

What a great spot (next to the falls on the rocks, high up) to have lunch. Lee Falls is a short pleasant hike!
    •  The book was wrong. I'm Shocked! Tamassee Falls and Lee Falls are on and the same. It really is even neater without all those leaves in the way.
    •  Tamassee Falls was really Lee Falls with a facellift: fresh new planting of what looks like birdsfoot trefoil instead of weeds. How green was our pasture?
    •  A cold frost gave way to a beautiful day for a hike to Lee Falls. We crossed Tamassee Creek several times....always an adventure. The falls were covered with ice and the water flow was good. A nice lunch followed by bouldering back to the trail. It warmed quickly as we left the valley. A great hike !!!
