Cat Gap to John Rock Trail

Beautiful trail starts at the Pisgah Fish Hatchery on the Cat Gap trail, passes by a stand of living Hemlock Trees (that have been kept alive - all others in the forest have died), passes Cedar Rock Falls where we will stop for pictures, and then we pick up the John Rock Trail to the top for a grand view and lunch.  We will take the John Rock trail back down, cross over several streams, hike through a large dead hemlock forest and follow the Davidson River back to the opposite end of the Hatchery parking lot.

Hike rated medium/strenuous - 5 mile loop with 1000 elevation gain.   Drive time one way 75 minutes.

Bring lunch, water, and rain poncho.  No dogs please.

Gas gratuity $5 min.

Thanks to all for making a pretty day hike extra nice. Good distance for a Sunday and I enjoyed the pleasant mix of people. The fall colors were scattered in the brownish forest but available to photograph from time to time.
