Up The Creek Ski & Rec Club’s Annual Winter Kickoff

Mark your calendars to attend Up The Creek’s big Winter Kickoff!  This is shaping up to be the biggest and best winter kickoff we’ve ever had! The Winter Kickoff will be held at The Proof Nightclub, 7800 East Hampden, Denver. The free food for the evening will be provided from The Fresh Fish Company.

There will be a cash bar with $3.25 drink specials, and plenty of free door prizes donated by various vendors. Every attendee to the Kickoff gets a free ticket for a prize drawing for showing up, and another free ticket for a drawing for every trip you sign up for at the kickoff. There is no charge to attend this event, and it is open to both members and non-members so bring a friend or 2.

Up The Creek trip leaders will be on hand to answer any questions that you may have about our winter ski trips and will be taking reservations and trip deposits. You can pay for trips by check or credit card. The Winter Schedule will be posted on the UTC Web site about 10 days prior to the kickoff. This year we are planning weekend trips to Steamboat Springs, Beaver Creek, Monarch, Powderhorn, Aspen, and other possible locations. There will also be multiple ski day buses to Copper Mountain and Vail on select Saturdays and Sundays this winter. Non-skiing events such as the Warren Miller Film and Pro Sports events are also being planned. Great parties and events such as the Halloween and Holiday party will also be showcased at the kickoff.

Representatives from all of the major Colorado Ski resorts will be present selling discounted lift tickets, and other offerings. Kickoffs are always a fun and exciting way to hook up with old friends and make some new ones, so plan on attending this year’s Up The Creek Winter Kickoff. Joe and the other board members did an awesome job of putting together the kick-off. I know how much work goes into organizing this event. It was great as a trip leader to have our table ready with all the sign up sheets and other items on the table when I arrived. Thank you!!

Thanks Kathy I really appreciate the kind works and everyone's hard work that went into the Winter Kickoff. Since it was my first time organizing the event not everything went as smooth as maybe it should have.

Very disorganized. No welcome if new members. No one knew what was going on.

Hi Liz, Sorry that the kickoff was not a great experience for you. This is usually out biggest meeting of the year and we received more people last night than we thought. Most of the trips got much higher signups than last year. We are an all volunteer club and everyone was stretched to the max last night. If you were to come out to our next meeting on Thursday Oct 24th at the Fresh Fish Company, you will have a much better experience; it won’t be nearly as busy. Yesterday was very overwhelming for lots of people! So again, my apologies, please join us for another event, or contact me personally if you have any other questions or concerns.

I just need to mention, that I also felt like no one was attempting to welcome newer members. I am one of them, from the summer. I attended the picnic bash and tried to socialize but, no one really made any effort to talk to me. I am a fun and nice person, but I felt very alone there. I noticed that there were separate groups of people who knew each other and they kind of stuck together.
I want to join again, beginning October, but I also do not want to experience people in a group who already know each other for years, kind of shutting out people they do not know yet.
A group environment is suppose to be a fun time. My idea was to meet some new people who love to ski and at least feel a bit welcomed. I will attempt to come to the next meeting on the 24th as well as the Halloween party. I like the idea of having a meeting for newer people. Good idea.

The Kickoff was packed with people last night! I think we got more signups for trips yesterday than at any other kickoff that I’ve attended! Steamboat alone got 80 signups, over 70 for Beaver Creek! Many new members joined the club last night, a big thanks to all the board members and trip leaders who worked the kickoff! Lots of us didn’t even have a chance to partake in the free food buffet!

Great meetup with a chance to speak with others who have been on the Steamboat & other ski trips... very helpful to a newcomer. I joined on the spot. Looking forward to the season.

When you get to the kickoff youwill need to check in with membership at the door. If you are a "Dues Paying Club Member" you will need to get a wristband from membership that will confirm your membership and that you can get the discounted trip prices. If you are a guest or meetup member you don't get a wristband. Everyone who attends the kickoff will get a raffel ticket when you arrive. We will start pulling out names for the free give aways around 6:30 pm. You need to be at the kickoff in order to claim your prize. Names will be posted on the whiteboard on the dance floor until 8 pm. If you would like to inquire about becoming an Up The Creek CLub member please ask on of the membersip people at the check in desk for more info. It's usually very busy at the kickoffs so this could take a few minutes!
