Day Bus to Copper/Vail - Downhill, XC Ski or Snowshoe

Don't get stuck in traffic, take the Up The Creek Day bus to Copper Mtn or Vail!  As an alternative to downhill, you can also enjoy the day XC skiing or snowshoeing.

Join us for a truly fun experience with your UTC friends & guests. The day buses
are a great way to get up to the ski areas and socialize with other members and
guests. The Ski bus is a luxury motor coach that can accommodate up to 50
people. The bus has a bathroom, great scenic views, plenty of leg room, and
usually can drop us off right by the ski lifts. Bagels, muffins, fruit and
juice are provided for the morning trip up. Wine, beer, pop, snacks, and music
are provided for the party on the ride home! We meet at the RTD Federal Center
Station, 11,601 West 2nd Place, Lakewood, CO. (1 block east of Union, 4 blocks
south of 6th Ave).
We will meet the Arrow Stage Lines bus at the South East corner of the RTD lot (North West corner of Routt and 2nd).Click on this link for a map of the RTD parking lot:

The bus will drop off at Copper Mtn at approximately 8:30 am and then continue
onward and arrive at the Transportation Centre in Vail at 9:00 am. On the ride
home the ski bus will leave Vail at 4:15 pm, pick up at Copper Mtn at 5:00 pm
and arrive back in Denver at 7:00 pm, weather and traffic permitting. No
hassles from driving, parking, or having to make bathroom stops. (The bus has a
bathroom). (Lift tickets not included) If we have enough people signed up ahead of time we will run 2 buses, one to Copper, one to Vail.

If you'd like to snowshoe or give cross country skiing a try, or you'd just prefer to do something different that day, please join Carolyn Roberts at the Vail Nordic Center.

The "ambassadors" at Copper Mountain provide a free snowshoe tour--you can either bring your own equipment or rent there.  You can sign up for the tour up to 48 hours in advance by calling[masked] X45862.  From 10a-1p the route is intermediate, and the tour from 1p-2:30 is more family oriented/beginner.

The Vail Nordic Center [masked]), is a short distance from the transportation center where the bus drops off the downhill skiers.  There is a free shuttle that runs every half hour at peak times.  The trail pass for both snowshoe and cross country skiing is ONLY $8!  There is 10 km of snowshoe trails and 17 km of ski trails.  Snowshoe rental is $17; classic XC skis $17; and skate XC skis $22.  If you'd like the opportunity to try a little XC skiing, classic lessons are at 10a and skate lessons at 1:30p.  They also offer a package at $56 - which includes an hour and 15 minute group lesson in the morning, XC ski rental, and the trail pass.

Regarding lunch or those hot toddies, the owners advise that the grill at the clubhouse will be open Thursday through Sunday, but you can also bring your own lunch.

All buses depart at 6:45 AM. Plan on arriving at the meeting place at least 30 minutes prior to departure!

The cost for the day ski buses is $35.00 for Up The Creek Dues Paying Club Members; $40.00 for Non ClubMembers and Meetup Members (this includes a $3 tip for bus driver). You need to pre-pay for the day bus, seats are only confirmed when payment is recieved. The easiest way to pay is to go to our online payment system at:

Anyone missing a pair of black Foster Grant glasses, left on the ski bus? Still looking for the owner . . .

I think the morning mix also needs some Jim Croce, Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt and Laura Nyro added to it.

I had a great time and really appreciated the beginner lesson with Phil. He's very patient and supportive.

This was the first bus where we had people singing along with the Moody Blues, played at a volume that didn't require earplugs. Many people recognized that most of the music played was originally released on .....vinyl.

Nobody told me "please stop playing that Michael Jackson DVD - we are sick of it!" I did get a request to add some Peter Paul & Mary to the mellow morning mix. Perhaps I can add some Simon & Garfunkel as well.

People really liked the Carol King, James Taylor, Everly Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot, Bread and other mellow music in the morning. On the way back they danced to the Isely Brothers, Luther Vandross, Average White Band, KC and the Sunshine Band, etc.

Good morning! I have not done this before and need some help. I signed me and a buddy up and hope I only took two spots and not three. Can you confirm? I also could not pay via the UTC Online Store, it says "Availability: Out-of-Stock". I will email and call James Mackay, but just wanted to make sure I ask for help from whoever is can respond to this message. Otherwise, I am anxious to meet everyone and have a great time!

Hello Curtis and friends! Looks like all the busses are filled (as of Thursd eve) as it says "Out of Stock" when you try to pay/sign up for the busses. I am going to Vail to ski and will follow the busses so I can meet folks up there. I would like to see if anyone wants to drive or wants a ride. We can split the driving and parking costs if that's ok. Pls contact me via cell if you want to either drive and/or want a ride. I have a smaller SUV and can fit one person with equipment. Ill come back at the same time as the busses ok. Corey [masked]

I am going to Vail. Anyone else???

    November 18, 2013

    • Curtis C.

Hi Jolie, About 20 to 40 people usually go to Vail, 20 to 40 to Copper so you will have lots of people to ski with. Later this week when the new on line shopping cart goes live we will announce all the day buses for December and January and then you and many other people will be signing up! Please let JAmes or myself know if you have any other questions.
