Messiah Concert to benefit NW Harvest

The Northwest Chorale will be singing Handel's Messiah, complete with a wonderful baroque orchestra and professional soloists. Admission is complimentary, and a free will offering will be taken to benefit local area food banks.  It will feature the solo talents of Kathy Barlow, soprano; Nerys Jones, alto; Paul Karaitis, tenor; and Michael Drumheller, bass.  This will be a full performance of the entire work.

This tremendously popular oratorio has become an essential holiday tradition.  Messiah encompasses the whole of human experience – hope and fulfillment, suffering and death, resurrection and redemption.  Handel composed the oratorio in just twenty-one days, and gave annual performances of Messiah to benefit his favorite charity, the Foundling Hospital.  It is never hard to find people around us struggling with economic hardship, whether from ill health, long term unemployment or the loss of paychecks for federal employees during the government shutdown.  We [meetup member Katrina O] offer our performance of this moving work as Handel did – to feed those in need.

This is my choir - we really do put on a good show. Many of our members have been singing with us for ten years or more. More details on the group, our mission, and the concerts can be found at
http://www.nwchorale.org/concerts.htm

I look forward to seeing folks there!

Katrina O, who suggested this event as a meetup, will be performing tonight so she unable to serve as the host for this event. Assistant Organizer George Liu will serve as the event host. Please meet him between 6:00 - 6:30 pm in the area immediately outside of the concert room. He is an Asian American who wears glasses and who will probably be wearing a hat of some sort (e.g., beret, African brimless cap, or gortex rain hat). A head shot of him appears in the photo section of his profile so you can see for whom to look. He cell phone,[masked], will be on until the start of the performance at 6:30. Please note that George uses a "dumbphone" that has voice communication capability only; please do not send him any texts or post any messages on the web site in the two hours before the concert because he will not be able to read and respond to them.

Please note that seating is available on a first-come first-served basis so plan to arrive early to ensure getting a seat.

This meetup is cross listed with Urban on a Budget, Seattle Singles, and Culture Vultures.

There will be an optional dinner starting around 5:00 pm at one of the budget budget restaurants located on University Way (probably between 50th and 52nd NE). Details will be posted a few days before the event.

There will be an optional dinner at one of inexpensive restaurants located on University Way between 50th and 52nd Streets NE (across the street from the University Heights Community Center). Meet me at 5:00 pm in front of the Shawarma King Restaurant, 5004 University Way, where we will review our dining options. If we do not patronize Shawarma King, which specializes in Middle East food, we might be at Chili's (next door) or at Mandarin Chef. Please call me at[masked] if you can't find the group. I will turn the phone off around 5:15 so we won't be disturbing other diners.
