Introduction to the Go language

In the survey that was e-mailed out, the "Intro to Go" topic received the most #1 picks (by a decent margin).  Since this is a new group, we've decided to do that topic for this second meeting.  We will go over the language syntax, language features, and writing idiomatic Go code.  Please invite anyone remotely Go-curious (a term that was coined in our last meeting) to attend!  We realize that we have several Go experts already, so please attend and add your expertise to the discussion; we will continue will the more advanced topics next month!

Dinner will be provided.  Please RSVP so we know how much food to get.

I think another thing that might really help the community transition from what they know to the wonderful world of Go is to do something like: http://ants.aichallenge.org/ Not so much as a challenge but as a learning experience. Where you teach ideas of how to do solve things in Go. You could give boiler plate of working solution and walk through it line by line. Then via the community everyone could share code samples of what they are doing and "why". Then at each monthly meeting, the person or group that is in the lead could talk through their code and why they did what they did.

The introduction was nice and relative easy to follow along. The language was very interesting, and I cannot wait to start digging into programming in Go. Everyone was willing to ask and answer questions. Everyone was very friendly and cordial. It was a very pleasant experience.

Tonight's we'll have some Rumbi. Food should get here in about 15 minutes.

Any chance this would be recorded? I won't be able to make it tonight :(

The organizers have no plans to record this. I don't think there would be any objections if someone had the equipment to record it with good audio and wanted to volunteer to record it. We could check to see if MediaForge has such equipment available for us to use in future meetings.

Ok, I figured it was a long shot but thanks for the response! Cheers.

Has a presenter/presentation already been chosen for this meeting?

Perhaps, but I would think the other topics in the survey would be the "something more" than the Go tour. No?

Yes, but that assumes they all know the what else to ask for? I am guessing the reason so many ask for an overview is they are just trying to connect the dots from what they know and what Go can do. Something a lot more advanced than a Go tour.
