I just got back from the Libertarian National Convention in Denver. Unfortunately my two favorite candidates, Sen. Mike Gravel and medical marijuana activist Steve Kubby (both 9/11 truth supporters) lost out to Rep. Bob Barr. The bad news is that Barr and his running mate, Wayne Root, haven't signed the Libertarians for Justice 9/11 truth pledge: http://www.libertariansforjustice.org. The good news is that Barr has big-time name recognition and national support, which should really put the Libertarians on the map in this election. I am putting out feelers to see if I can arrange a debate or discussion with Bob Barr when he comes through Wisconsin. Besides our different views of 9/11, a Barrett-Barr discussion would showcase the diversity of the Libertarian Party, since Rep. Barr comes to Libertarianism from the right, while I come to it from the left. One thing we agree on: Fire Ron Kind and the rest of the Bush-league pro-war pro-Patriot-Act incumbents!

A Call for Unity in the 9/11 Truth Movement

And speaking of agreeing on things...physicist Steven Jones will be appearing on my 9/11 and Empire Radio show tonight, Tuesday June 27th, 8-10 pm Central, along with Rob Balsamo of Pilots for 9/11 Truth...and get this: Jim Fetzer, who founded Scholars for 9/11 Truth with Steve in 2006, then fell into an acrimonious dispute that split Scholars into two groups, is now admitting he was wrong when he cast aspersions on Steve's work and said it looked like a dead-end.

Jim Fetzer writes: "I have tremendous admiration for Steve's recent paper 'Fourteen Points of Agreement with Official Government Reports on the World Trade Center Destruction,' co-authored by Frank M. Legge, Kevin R. Ryan, Anthony F. Szamboti, and James R. Gourley: http://www.911blogger.com/node/15081  I think it is brilliant the way the authors made their points by 'agreeing' with NIST and FEMA. While I remain convinced that conventional explosives alone cannot account for the nature and extent of the damage to the World Trade Center, I also welcome Steve's ongoing research on thermite and thermate residues. Thermate and thermite may well have contributed to the destruction of the Twin Towers and even been used to bring down WTC-7. I have invited Steve to return to my show for another interview, assuring him that I will let Steve get in a word or two now and then. I would like to do whatever I can to acquire a united front for 9/11 research, including urging us to support those rarest of animals, 9/11 truth candidates who are running for office. Someone like Kevin could make a huge difference."

Jim also recently wrote: "I believe we can succeed if we show more tolerance and less disrespect for one another...As a philosopher, it pains me to see so many otherwise intelligent individuals savage one another for inappropriate reasons based upon ignorance and fueled by rumors.  We must be willing to exercise our minds if we are going to figure out what happened on 9/11 and make a change in our history."

Please also note that Jim Fetzer (a) has stated his disagreement with the current direction of Judy Wood's research, and (b) does not argue that no planes hit the World Trade Center.

Jim Fetzer has been bashed by many in the 9/11 truth movement for his handling of the Scholars split and his openness toward controversial research positions. I think that some of these criticisms have merit. But to the extent they've marginalized Jim, it has been a net loss to 9/11 truth, because Jim is among the best  (and best-credentialed) communicators in the movement, especially in his introductory lectures to general audiences. Here in the Midwest, much of the 9/11 truth movement is made up of people who were introduced to the topic by Jim's terrific introductory lectures.

Here is David Ray Griffin's take, written in response to someone who had harshly criticized Jim Fetzer:

"Jim Fetzer has done a lot of good work and did much to build up the scholarly component of the 9/11 truth movement.

"It is true that I ultimately dropped out of his organization (Scholars for 9/11 Truth) and instead, along with many others, joined Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice, which is associated with Steven Jones. But my leaving involved issues of style rather than substantive matters (although it's also true that Jim had used his position as head of Scholars inappropriately, I thought, to promote some controversial theories, rather than remaining publicly neutral while allowing Scholars to be a place where these theories could be debated in a scholarly manner; but these are matters of judgment, on which sincere people can disagree). 

"Part of the good work Jim has done is the article he co-authored with Captain May and two other military men."

I am very happy to hear major figures in the 9/11 truth movement saying kind things about each other. The way I see it, the 9/11 truth movement is like a family. We have our quarrels and our differences, and we definitely have a weird uncle or two. But when Bush comes to shove, we need to stick together - especially when we're under attack by outsiders, which is pretty much all the time. We can make it clear that we don't agree with our weird uncle on everything, without trying to drum him out of the family.

Social scientists know that the most important factor that makes any group successful is what the world's first social scientist, Ibn Khaldun, called "assabiyah," which has been translated as "an intensified mode of social cohesion produced through biological and fictive kinship ties." When people feel like family, and work toward a goal, they succeed. When they fall into factions and quarreling, they fail. It really is that simple.

The worst way a group can fall apart is when it starts scapegoating its own members, rather than attacking the outside enemy and focusing on the goal that unites. The scapegoat syndrome is brilliantly portrayed in Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery," which describes a community that randomly selects a member for human sacrifice each year. The 9/11 truth movement seems vulnerable to this tendency to scapegoat people on our own side, rather than fighting the anti-truth forces.

I have consistently tried to promote unity in the 9/11 truth movement. During the Scholars split, I was the only person that both sides trusted, which is why I ended up as the neutral custodian of the domain name st911.org. I invite radio guests from all factions and outlooks, and try to treat them decently and listen to what they have to say. I have tried to mediate between Jews, Christians, and Muslims, hoping that each group would give the other a fair hearing - a hope that seems to have been in vain, since it has become thunderingly obvious to me that most non-Muslim Americans, including some in the 9/11 truth movement, don't have the slightest interest in what Muslims think about anything, because, deep down inside, they don't see us as full, equal human beings. (Indeed, I have been told by a participant in the search committee that I was disinvited from at least one 9/11 truth event because I was Muslim...just as I have been expelled from academia for sharing the views of 80% of Muslims on 9/11, falsely accused of sharing the views of the majority of Muslims on the Nazi holocaust, and so on.) Despite being regularly subjected to ad-hominem, implicitly and explicitly Islamophobic attacks, I have only returned fire in the case of three extremely obnoxious people who were harassing me in the most odious fashion imaginable: Nico Haupt, Mark Rabinowitz, and Rick Siegal, none of whom I consider genuine seekers of truth. Apart from those three people, I don't believe I have ever had a seriously unkind word to say about anyone in the 9/11 truth movement.

I think many 9/11 truth activists have made a mistake by not recognizing how important it is to treat the whole 9/11 truth movement like family,  focus on defeating the anti-truth forces, and keep our eyes on the prize. Most of the issues that pro-truthers quarrel over are relatively unimportant, compared to the supreme importance of assabiyah, or "family feeling." Whereas most of us (correctly) think there is more evidence for thermite than for directed energy weapons as a causal factor in the destruction of the World Trade Center, the people we are trying to convince - the general public - think controlled demolition is itself kooky as all get-out. To them, no mechanism could possibly be kookier than any other. Likewise, to the general public, controlled demolition is just as wacky as no-planes or video fakery. The  mistaken notion that a few weird uncles and aunts pursuing controversial research agendas is a mortally-threatening PR problem has led sincere researchers and activists to waste time and energy in destructive infighting about issues that don't matter much - with profoundly destructive effects on the assabiyah of the 9/11 truth movement. Many terrific 9/11 researchers  unintentionally damage the assabiyah of the 9/11 truth movement by virtue of their narrowly scientific education and outlook. Our educational system, especially scientific education, trains people in convergent thinking rather than divergent thinking. We are trained to think there is one right answer to every question - it must be either A, B, C, or D. Anyone who disagrees with us must be just plain wrong. If that person persists in clinging to the wrong answer, they are so damaging to the cause of Truth that they should be scapegoated and expelled from the community.

While convergent thinking has its place, divergent thinking is far more powerful and vastly more important. Instead of testing for the one correct answer, a divergent-thinking test would ask you to come up with the ten best potential solutions to a real-world problem. If you came up with a bunch of great ideas, you'd get an A - even though nobody will ever perfectly agree on which ideas were best. Divergent thinking is holistic, values-drenched rather than value-neutral, approximative rather than exact...and, for most human endeavors, vastly more useful than convergent thinking. A good convergent thinker can sometimes help clarify certain disputed empirical and theoretical questions. But good divergent thinkers get things done in the real world.

We need divergent thinking in the 9/11 truth movement - different strategies for pushing 9/11 truth to victory, different approaches to the various research topics, different perspectives on all of the many questions related to 9/11 truth. To fully encourage the best divergent thinking, and to build the assabiyah that will bring us victory, we need to treat each other like family, regardless of political tendency, religious or philosophical outlook, or any other factor that divides us. I hereby declare that all of you who are sincerely working for 9/11 truth  are and will remain like family to me. In 9/11 truth activism news, more than 50 people turned out to support Blair Gadsby, a religious studies professor who is targeting Senator John McCain with a hunger strike for 9/11 truth, on the first day of his hunger strike. McCain's Phoenix offices were completely surrounded by huge, colorful 9/11 truth signs and banners, yet for some reason the media did not give this amazing event front-page coverage. Gadsby wants McCain to give the Pheonix 9/11 truth group two hours of his time for a focused presentation, followed by a debate on the issue by leading scientists and engineers.

Meanwhile, a new poll by World Public Opinion shows that mistrust of government in the US and UK is skyrocketing. The poll found that 80% of Americans say their government serves powerful special interests, 83% are dissatisfied with their government, and more than 60% do not trust their government.

Since more than two-thirds of Americans harbor subversive attitudes toward their government, it looks like the project Main Core database will have to be expanded. According to a recent article in Radar Magazine, project Main Core is a database of 8 million Americans who may be put in concentration camps when so-called Continuity of Government plans are invoked, the Constitution is suspended, and martial law is declared.  Journalist Christopher Ketcham writes: "According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, 'There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived "enemies of the state" almost instantaneously.' He and other sources tell Radar that the database is sometimes referred to by the code name Main Core. One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention." Unfortunately for big brother, there are now 200 million Americans, not just 8 million, who are fed up with the National Security State and the fat cats it serves. Whether they will be able to build enough concentration camps to hold that many people remains an open question.

Bill Clinton, who has often verbally sparred with 9/11 truth activists, is now promoting a conspiracy theory of his own - he says the media is covering up Hilary Clinton's strong showing in the primaries, according to CNN. Next thing you know he and Hilary will be charging We Are Change with being part of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.

In false-flag news, PrisonPlanet.com is reporting that the CIA is protecting an al-Qaida-linked terror group from being extradited to Iran, citing ABC News as the source. No wonder they call it al-CIA-duh.

On the Iraq war front, Uruknet is reporting that US forces are currently imprisoning 513 Iraqi children as "imperative threats to security." According to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), children in Iraqi custody are at risk of physical abuse. Seymour Hersh has reported that US troops in Iraq have videotaped themselves sodomizing children in front of their parents.

Finally, in rule-of-law news, Canada's supreme court has overturned a $354,000 judgment won by a man who found a dead fly in a bottle of water. The man insisted that he had been treated unfairly and said finding the dead fly in an unopened bottle of water in 2001 devastated him. He became obsessed with thoughts of dead flies, could not sleep and was constantly on edge — to the point that his business and even his sex life suffered. Though out of a $354,000 judgment, the man at least still has a shot at a movie deal with David Cronenberg or David Lynch.

 Monday 5/26

In today's headlines...the Scotsman newspaper has reported that Israel's former national security adviser Giora Eiland is making a case for an Israeli attack on Iran. Eiland claims that Israel will choose to either strike Iran or accept a nuclear power in Mideast within a year. According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli intelligence officials also allege that Iran will soon develop a cruise missile that can evade interception by Israel's anti-ballistic missile defenses.  Despite the recent US National Intelligence Estimate, which stated with "high confidence" that Iran is not conducting nuclear weapons programs, Israel continues to accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear arms to "wipe Israel off the map". In fact, the "wipe off the map" quote is a mistranslation - the actual quote called for regime change in Tel Aviv, not the destruction of Israel. Iranian officials say their nuclear program is solely aimed at producing electricity for a growing population, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never started a war. Additionally, Iran, unlike Israel, is a signatory in good standing of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.

As Israel tries to drum up support for an attack on Iran, its American agents are leaping into action. According to Jim Lobe's article on antiwar.com, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy or WINEP, an offshoot of the radical Zionist lobby group AIPAC, is churning out propaganda making the case that an attack on Tehran’s nuclear facilities might not be as disastrous as leading US military officers and most other analysts believe. Leading figures at WINEP and AIPAC have not registered as agents of a foreign power, as US law requires them to do - yet none have thus far been arrested.

Meanwhile, Israel and its American accomplices have been caught red-handed bombing mosques in Iran. According to a Yahoo News report, "Iran's chief prosecutor said bombers who caused a deadly blast at a mosque in Shiraz had confessed of links to Israel and the United States."

As the Israeli propaganda for war on Iran heats up, China and Russia have issued a joint warning against any attack on Iran, according to a report in the Chinese newspaper the People's Daily. Russia and China together field the world's largest army and possess more than 1000 nuclear weapons that can reach Israel and the United States.

In political news, the Libertarian party has nominated Georgia congressman Bob Barr as its candidate for president. Barr, who originally supported the Iraq war and the Bush regime's assault on the Constitution, now opposes the war, the Patriot act, and the other unconstitutional Bush regime actions. Unfortunately, Barr has not yet signed the Libertarians for Justice pledge to demand a new 9/11 investigation.

 In 9/11 truth news, two major events will be happening this week. In New York City, there will be a RALLY FOR THE NYC 9/11 BALLOT INITIATIVE on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:30 pm in St. Mark's Church. In today's headlines...the Libertarian Party opened its national convention yesterday in Denver, Colorado, and most of the leading presidential candidates have signed the Libertarians for Justice demanding a new independent investigation of the crimes of 9/11. Presidential candidates Senator Mike Gravel, Dr. Mary Ruwart, Steve Kubby, Michael Jingozian, Daniel Imperato, Barry Hess and Robert Milnes have all signed the pledge. In 9/11 truth hits the media news...last night Richard Greene continued his Thursday night "Month of Truth" series on Air America, interviewing researcher-activist Elias Davidsson from Europe 9/11 Truth and University of California Professor Emeritus Peter Dale Scott. In the first hour, Davidsson discussed his memorandum to the Human Rights Special Rapporteur of the United Nations presenting evidence that no Arabs or Muslims were on the planes allegedly hijacked on 9/11. Professor Peter Dale Scott came on during the second hour to dissect the 9/11 Commission's cover-up of Cheney's lies about where he was and what he was doing during the 9/11 attacks. Davidsson and Scott were opposed by Ron Wieck, an extremely weak opponent who, unfortunately was the only person Greene was able to find who was willing to publicly defend the official story of 9/11. Next week's show is expected to focus on the first responders and family members.

In war on freedom news, a Canadian judge has ruled against a US serviceman who fled to Canada in order to avoid participating in Cheney's criminal, Nazi-style wars of aggression. The judge ruled that National Guard Sgt. Corey Glass, 25, may be deported and that despite the possibility of the death penalty for so-called "desertion," Glass has no reasonable fear of persecution. Being put to death for refusing to participate in the supreme war crime, apparently, does not qualify as "persecution."

In covert assassination news, Wayne Madsen reports that several US intelligence sources do not believe that the so-called Washington Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, committed  suicide. Palfrey's mother and others have said that Palfrey was working on a tell-all book about her high-level prostitution clients, including the top Republican political elite of the Washington, DC area. Madsen also reports that Vice President Dick Cheney was on Palfrey's client list. According to Madsen, one US intelligence source says Palfrey's hanging resembled classic US-supported Latin American death squad assassinations. Another US intelligence source insisted "there is no way this woman [Palfrey] took her own life."

Former National Security Agency officer Madsen also reports that the recent assassinations of CIA agent Roland Carnaby in Houston, and Palestine activist Riad Hamad in Austin, appear to have been the work of the Israeli Mossad and its American assets. Madsen reports that the Carnaby assassination by corrupt elements of the Houston police "was part of a coordinated effort by Israeli intelligence operatives working in tandem with the neocon cell operating under the patronage of Vice President Dick Cheney to silence key Arab-American intelligence assets."  Madsen also reports: "US intelligence sources in Houston told WMR that Hamid's death was an assassination, and they blamed it on Israeli intelligence agents operating out of the same cell that Carnaby had under surveillance. Hamid, like Carnaby and Prouty, had contact with important US intelligence assets in the Middle East, particularly Lebanon."

Finally, a recent report from Japan suggests that parrots are smart birds - a whole lot smarter than the journalists who parrot government lies. The Associated Press reports: "When Yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught — recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help." Yosuke was returned to his family by police.
