Arizona CCW Class

Last year Jayson Hoffer ask me to put together a class for those in our meetup group who were interested in obtaining their Arizona CCW license.  Well it is now a new year so I will be offering our second annual Arizona CCW class.  This will take place on March 16, 2013 at 8:00 AM. The class will end the afternoon with a live fire segment at Caswells.  Live fire will consist of ten rounds at 7 yards and ten rounds at 10 yards. The cost for this class will be the same as last year, $45.00 per person. The location will be determined based on the number of folks who decide to attend.  It will more than likely be some where along Hwy 60 close to Caswells.  While it is not necessary to take this class to carry concealed in Arizona, we will look at carrying from the responsibility perspective. Any questions please call me at[masked]-3957.  You may also contact me by sending me an email here or [masked]

Please note: DO NOT BRING ANY FIREARMS INTO THE CLASS ROOM!

For the AZ DPS - $ 60.00 (AZ cost & FBI background check), this requires a Money Order or Cashier's check Only, correct? Do we need to bring this to the day of the class?

    March 11, 2013

    • Rick M.

That is correct, AZ DPS will NOT accept cash or personal check. You do NOT have to bring the $60.00 to class, you will send it in with your application and finger print cards.

The normal state license fee is $60, for a 5 year permit. It renews for less than that, like $20 for each 5 year period.

    March 5, 2013

    • Don N

The cost for renewal is currently $43. I believe the recurrent education requirement has been eliminated.

      March 6, 2013

    • JasonC

You are right - thanks for the correction...

      March 7, 2013

  • JasonC

Rick, if you could go over what if anything to bring, and what the license process is going forward, I for one would find it helpful.

The class is $45 but is there any additional fee for the actual test, licensing, or any additional fee's?

    March 5, 2013

    • Richard

So then for members of the group it'll be $106. What's the $60 for?

      March 5, 2013

    • JasonC

The $60 goes to the state of Arizona, it is the license fee to issue a 5 year CCW license - like the fee at the DMV for getting your driver's license, in effect.

Is there any expiration date on the training? I took the class in another State 5-6 years ago but never got the CCW because that State was very strict on the weapon print when carrying. If one could sort of make out you were carrying you couldn't legally carry. Plus I didn't own, still don't own a weapon that will not print. 8am? Means I have to wake the roosters.

    March 4, 2013

    • Rick M.

Your AZ CCW license has to be renewed every five years. If you have a certificate from that training class you might be able to submit the certificate with your application. If it happened to be an NRA safety class or NRA Basic Pistol class then it will be accepted.

      March 4, 2013

    • Don N

Check the DPS site! There is an expiration date for class credit which is pretty short.
