We shoot three arrows and add up the score, out of a possible 30.
After ten ends, we add our scores to get a total for the round, out of a possible 300.
After a few times, the scores can be averaged and can be compared one's current score to see if there's improvement, and how much.

If your shot cuts a line, it counts as the higher score. For example, if you shot and grazed the edge, you whould score '1' even if most of the arrow was outside.

For recurve shooters, a '10' score for any shot which is inside of the nine ring. Compound shooters must have part of their arrow inside the innermost ring.
