I work Sundays at Sportcheck in Pacific Centre downtown and I always go through Chinatown because its so vibrant and active with all the people and markets.
Grab your bike, lock and panniers or back pack and come along for the ride and the shopping or just for the experience and some sight seeing. You can check out the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classic Chinese Garden, Millenium Gate and head downtown with me and beyond.
This ride starts at the Canoe Club at Klahanie and will take either the Barnet or a combination of the Barnet and the Trans Canada, Cougar Creek, Barnet Trail and Velodrome multi use trails to Kask Bros. From there we follow the various multi user Trans Canada and other multi use trail connections to the Portside Bike Route in Vancouver. From there take Lakeside or other secondary streets to get to Chinatown then follows West Pender to Pacific Centre, my destination.
The other option for MTBRs is to ride up Burnaby Mountain via the trails on the west side and do a run down to the North Road Trails down to the Barnet and then along the Trans Canada for a different take on Burnaby. This is a joint ride with the Vancouver Urban and Hybrid & Commuter Cyclists.
I ride back along the Adanac Frances Union Bike way and the Barnet Hwy shortly after 7 pm to make for a really nice commuter loop. You can take Main straight to Union St. or you could ride to a Skytrain Station, VCC Clark doesn't require a transfer at Commercial.
I do this ride in about an hour on my own but I happy to extend the time with notice as we might have to adjust the start time.
When I take the Barnet to Kask Bros and then the Trans Canada downtown or the Frances Union Adanac. You can join the ride any where along the route but please tell us when and where you are joining us and be early as I am on a schedule with limited flexibility.
Average speed is about 20 kmh to 25 kmh and I ride rain or shine unless it is very windy or very wet. If I change the ride plan, sometimes I drive part way, I will post it in advance. Usually I will wait up to 15 minutes at the start of the VMBM rides but this ride leaves on time.
Please keep in mind all hosts, AOs and myself are volunteers and everyone on the ride is responsible for their own safety and decisions. Helmets, water and appropriate clothing for the weather are required. You should also have a tool kit for basic repairs like a flat.
I hope to see some of you coming out for this scenic and fun morning ride that is a great start to your Sunday!
