Beginner Ride - Lower SFU (Burnaby Mtn)

We are starting a second series which will cover basic mountain bike riding skills.

This is a Beginner* ride that will introduce you to mountain biking on single track trails. Each week this month we will cover different mountain bike topics including:

Week 1. Stance and Balance

Week 2. Operations of Controls (gears, shifting, brakes) and Gravity Management 

Week 3. Cornering & Line Selection

Week 4. Wheel Lifts


This ride is more cross country riding than downhill at this stage (but there is a couple of downhill sections near the end of the ride). This ride stays on the Lower sections of SFU.

Route: After each session we'll head up and then come down North Road and then over to Lower Snake. We also head all the way down North Road to Jim's Jungle and back up finish.


You have limited experience with trail riding on a mountain biking.

You have reasonably decent general riding skills and good fitness.

You have done some road riding.




All organizer(s) are volunteers who do not accept responsibility for rider safety and health state before, during and at any time after this event.

Your Assumption Of Risk:

By agreeing to participate in this ride you acknowledge that mountain biking is considered a high risk activity and injuries are a common and ordinary occurrence of the sport. These risks include and are not limited to equipment failures, weather conditions, collisions with natural and man-made objects, including, but not limited to exposed rock, trees, snow, ice, earth stumps and man-made obstacles on or adjacent to the mountain bike terrain, collisions with other cyclists, pedestrians, animals, et al; becoming lost or separated from the group; failure to ride safely or within your own ability, and you accept these risks and the possibility of personal injury, death or property damage and the loss resulting therefrom due to any cause and without limitation. In the event of injury or loss, you and/or next of kin waive all future claims against the organizer(s), et al.

Organizer(s) reservations:

The organizer(s) shall reserve the right to turn away any participant who shows up without RSVP, unprepared and/or ill-equipped to handle this ride. A helmet, water, good sense of humour and a sense of fun are required no exceptions. Other required items are appropriate clothing, armor, food and a trail side repair kit.

      Sorry that you were having trouble finding us Stacy! We are moving the location next week to the Burnaby Mountain Air Bike Park. I'll double check the maps to make sure it is showing the correct location.
