Announcing a new Meetup for Vancouver Mountain Bike Meetup!

What: Stanley Park Ride - Strong Beginner +
When: Monday, June 11,[masked]:15 PM

Where: Stanley Park - Lost Lagoon
Alberni St and Chilco St
Vancouver, BC V5K 0A1

The 2012 Stanley Park Series!

We will guide a group up and through the Park to enjoy an array of hidden single track. Our pace will allow the slowest rider to keep up, with regular regrouping stops and a 'sweeper' to prevent anyone becoming separated from the group.

We will offer assistance as we can to ensure the best possible experience for everyone attending.  If time allows we may 'Session' a section or two so people can build their skill.

Special thanks to Steven for beginning the trail naming process and for all the 'extra' he does.

** Remember your locks, in case we hit the pub for a post-ride refuel! **

Details: Duration: 2 hrs. Weather: Fair to Light rain. For inclement days we will post a Go/No-Go by 4.30pm.  Meet at 6:15pm at the benches near the grass. Look for Dallas on a black and green Norco Fireball, or Gary on a copper Trek. The ride will begin at 6.20pm. Be on time or miss the bus! As these rides are now filling up quickly, the Wait List can get quite long. Because of this, please sign up only if you are sure you will go. IF you need to drop out when there are others waiting to join, please do it as early as possible to allow them time to take up the space. Thanks!

Tutorial: For those of you interested in a little pre-ride instruction Dallas will be at the meetup location at 6.00pm.  We'll spend 15min talking about braking, stance, and staying out of the saddle!  Plus answer any other questions you may have about the awesome sport of Mountain Biking!

Suitability: This ride is ideal for strong beginners (riders who have ridden a few trails at least). A reasonable level of cardio is recommended as there is a fair amount of pedalling.  All stunts have a ride-around or are easily walkable. There is no pressure to complete anything you don't feel ready for.

Terrain: The trails themselves are not steep but they do have technical elements that require some skill (roots, rocks, rolls, some tighter turns, etc). These are 'proper' trails, not just the wide, flat gravel paths within the Park.

Equipment: A hardtail (front suspension) mountain bike with proper off-road tires is required as a minimum. A quick-release seatpost clamp is recommended, for easy saddle-up/down between sections. A cycling helmet is mandatory.

Full-face helmet and armour are optional for most people on this ride.  If you are just starting your mountain biking career you may wish to armour-up your legs and arms as precaution.

Restrictions: All riders must be 19+ years old.  No Pets! (Stanley Park is an official 'On-Leash' area, with a $2000 max penalty).
