What's the Vancouver Ruby community like?

I grew up in North Delta and Langley, but live in Denver now to attend school full-time to become a professional developer. It's a really cool program, 6 month intensive on Ruby, Rails, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, &c.

When I graduate in July I have to decide if I'm going to stay here or relocate. I'm seriously considering moving back home, and am hoping some of you can tell me what the local Ruby community is like.

Do you feel the community is robust?
How are the job prospects?
Do you feel yourself pining away for Silicon Valley or feeling lucky that what you have in Vancouver is really special and growing?

I'm so new to this whole industry I'm not even really sure what to ask, so I hope if you're reading this you can chime in with your own thoughts and advice.

Conversely I'd love to answer any questions about the program I'm in, I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone who wants to become a developer quickly and with a very deep understanding of Ruby.
