Hello Everyone,

My name is James Robey, I am originally from Calgary. I am currently
seeking a long-term career as a Ruby Developer.

About myself, I have worked with computers for more than 15 years. I
have used Linux (slackware, gentoo, debian, etc) often since 1996,
with my primary OS being Mac OSX for the past few years.

I am always in the terminal, I regularly use GNU tools (sed, awk,
grep, you name it), and often write ruby scripts to automate
repetitive activities such as public wifi access login.

Six years ago, I worked as a Rails Developer for a startup. I
primarily dealt with the backend, working in the model, refactoring
the fat controllers, integrating with third party APIs. Because of my
linux experience, I also dealt with setting up the hardware
loadbalancer, dual Apache web servers, and MySQL database server. I
was the go-to guy for troubleshooting problems in the Rails app &
stack.

After the startup closed down, I changed my focus to internet
marketing & travelling. I tried my hand at so-called lifestyle
design, and lived abroad in Asia for several years. I learned a lot
from marketing, but I struggled with the ethics of selling snake oil.
During the past couple years, I have worked on a few small Rails apps
and refreshed my Rails knowledge. I find myself coming back to the
product side, I really want to work on real products and services.

I am inspired by lean startups and subscription-based web apps. I
think there's still a ton of low hanging fruit, even things that would
change the way people work or interact with the internet. I really do
want to work with solving problems and automating or scaling the
solutions to make a big difference. As you might be able to tell, I'm
a bit of an idea guy. I particularly enjoy brainstorming, and I'm
good at out of the box thinking, which lets me come up with novel
pragmatic & minimalist solutions.

If anyone thinks they know of a company that could use a well-rounded
linux, ruby, troubleshooting, marketing, and product/idea development
guy - please email me about it at [address removed].

Thank you!
James
