I love quirky independent movies, docs, foreign films -- something out of the ordinary. I used to be a movie reviewer, so for me movies are more than an escape. Its about the direction, the performance, the unique approach to film, sound, texture.
Going back 10 years, when I lived near an Indie Art Theatre -- My Life in Pink, Amelie, East West, Hugo Pool, Run Lola Run.
I love attending the films that Mohamed organizes - for the unique films, and for the opportunity to discuss the film afterwards with movie enthusiasts. I noticed though that there are many different organizers for this group. I tend to go where there is conversation about the movie afterwards.
The FWC = First Weekend Club. They screen Canadian feature films once a month. The cost is $12-$15 per film, however, snack food and one glass of wine is included in the price of your ticket.
The CSC - Celluloid Social Club screens short films from local filmmakers once a month. The tickets are $5 and if you volunteer, you get in for free and receive a free drink ticket for wine/ beer.
