Cosplay Cafe at UBC

Hey Anime fans,

I just happen to spot this while walking past Sakura Media recently and thought it looked like something that simply had to be done for our group. I've always been a huge fan of Maid and Cosplay Cafes at Conventions so I wouldn't want to miss something like this.

For those who have never been to these at conventions before: Maid/Cosplay cafes serve adorable cupcakes, cakepops, candies and other sweet stuff by waitresses in costumes. The waitresses will likely dress in Anime cosplays but also Lolita and *maybe* Comic book Costumes too. The staff will also put on dance show and and song performances by the twin girl singers we see at every con.

Attending in Cosplay is recommended but not required. If you have a costume or even a character/Animal hat then this would be a fun opportunity to wear it.

If you want a costume you can try here:

It's taking place at the Main Ballroom at the UBC Student Union Building at 6138 Student Union Blvd. It's easy to get to by catching any UBC bus. The most common means is getting off at Commercial and catching the 99 UBC bus. The Student Union Building is a hop, skip, and jump away from the UBC bus depo.

We are also planning a carpool from Surrey which can fit 4 people. Those coming need to bring 5 dollars cash with them to help pay for the gas and the parking.

We'll meet at the North end of the Student Union Building and try and find our way in probably through the North Entrance. The ballroom is on the 2nd floor and the lineup is expected to be pretty long. It might take us a while to get in.

The meetup time is negotiable as the event runs between 1pm and 6pm and I don't think they'll let us stay the entire time. Unless they do in which case,  Partteeeee!!!

This BTW is a CASH ONLY event as it's very unlikely they will have debt machines. So bring between 20 or 30 dollars so you can afford the sweet snacks.

If you are late or having trouble finding the meetup, please txt or call me at[masked] and I'll let you know where we are.

Really looking forward to this and hope to see alot of you out!! Cheers!!

Thanks to everyone who attended. Sorry for being a bit late as we kinda got lost. Thanks also to Bryan for giving Jacq, Matthew and myself rides to and from UBC. It was actually a better cafe then the convention ones because it had more variety of sweets and the fact we where able to stay as long as we wanted. None of the food was nutritional but then Maid Cafe food never is and really shouldn't. The cosplayed waitresses mostly wore maid outfits with anime characters underneath but there was one or two in full cosplay. I had 3 of the Tuxedo cakes and they where really good. We also got to meet peeps from the "Anime Overdrive" meetup who happen to be at the table right beside us. The Richmond based group turned out to be pretty cool. Overall we had a great day. Look forward to seeing you all again for Magic Madoka.
