Pre- Halloween Anime Social: Gaming 7pm Sushi 8:30pm

  • Oct 20, 2012 · 8:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hey Anime fans,

Halloween is upon us and we need to get a bit of sushi and gaming in before pounding back the candy. Don't worry about wearing a costume for this meetup as we will save them for the meetup after this one.

It will be a mixed meetup again with the following meetup times:

7pm for those looking to kick my butt at video games at Command HQ.

8:30pm for cheap, all you can eat sushi at the Kawawa Sushi Restraunt

Please announce in your RSVP which parts of the meetup you'll be attending.

Both meetup times will be in front of Sakura media. Any Sakura media shopping can be done at both times.

I'll be limiting the RSVP's to 20 people notwithstanding as I'm still not 100% sure the restaurant could fit 35 people as it was pretty cramped the last time we tried that many.

If your lost and can't find the meetup, please refer to the mall index or simply call or txt me at[masked] and I'll let you know where the meetup is.

End of Description. Now for the News:

This group is 10 years old as of the 8th of next month according to the meetup founding date displayed at the top left of this meetup page. This group was likely founded a short while after the creation of as the wiki says meetup was also founded in 2002. It is likely we are the few or only groups on the website that has been around for that long. We need to celebrate!!

I was planning to get a proper projection screen for the Library meetups as the slanted wall we had the image projected during the "Oblivion Island" meetup made the anime look rather strange. I saw some portable projection screens on an internet store and will hope to get one by January.

That is it for now. Hope to see y'all out.

Btw, the question about re-entry and the skydiver burning up came up during the meetup. I simply said that he never left the atmosphere because he went up on a balloon -- which requires an atmosphere to work -- and hence he couldn't have left the atmosphere.

But that's not really the only reason. The question arose because of a common incorrect assumption about the atmosphere. There is no line in the atmosphere that causes anything to "burn-up" when in contact with it.

Objects coming towards the planet from space are usually travelling at extreme speeds relative to us, think faster than 10,000 km/h. "burning up" is caused by the huge amount of heat generated by drag/friction against the gas in the atmosphere.

A skydiver the atmosphere usually has a max terminal velocity of a mere ~320km/h. This skydiver would have to travel ~3x what he could possibly travel via balloon in order to use the vacuum to gain enough speed for burn-up.

Great turnout by everyone. Haven't seen some of you in a little while and it's good to see you back. Shame that panoramic of mine didn't turn out well. Fabricio's hopefully turned out better.
