When: Saturday, August 28,[masked]:30 PM

Price: CAD10.00 Min to Childreach Int.

Where: Right @ Kits Beach
1305 Arbutus Street

Volleyball at the Beach, 3:30 pm till dark Saturday. We will play at Kits - our first love.

This is a special event - Kaye Bedford has organized a fund-raiser BBQ for Kits. We (Vancouver Beach VB Meetup) have offered to support Kaye in her efforts to collect donations and we have therefore scheduled our VB Meetup at a similar time as she will be having a BBQ all afternoon. All moneys collected will go to Kaye's volunteer effort. I suggest that all who attend donate between $10 and $30 to Kaye's cause (with income tax receipt) See below. Keep in mind that this also pays for the BBQ.

Volleyball schedule is as follows:
Intermediate and advanced players for 2s and 3s starting at 2:00 pm

Regular Meetup with everyone that wants to play starting at 3:30. Will do 3s, 4s, 6s etc -

BBQ - I suggest we take a break and BBQ at 5:30 and get Kaye to tell us a bit about her trip and her plans for this Tanzanian village

Clem, are you able to bring your BBQ in case we need more capacity to feed the masses?

We are going for the record Vancouver beach VB Meetup attendance - I think we could get 70 or more :-) and that would need 6 or 8 nets. Maria, Steve, and others with nets, please bring them. John - bring your poles - and those bringing gear, let me know that you will.

Beer needs to be always out of sight (even emptys) (in a cooler or have a sleave to camaflague it) so the cops can be cool.

RSVP please.

Dear Friends, this is Kaye.

As most of you already know, I will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime to help renovate
school buildings in the remote Tanzanian village of Lotima this coming November 13th to 27th of 2010.

I will be volunteering in partnership with Childreach International, which is a charity known for helping to alleviate child poverty in Africa. The goal of the project is to rebuild parts of Lotima Primary School, in order to make education more accessible for up to 600 local children as well as providing a vital centre for the community. Volunteers going to Tanzania will be primarily building walls, fetching and carrying building materials, painting, clearing areas of vegetation, mixing concrete and other assigned work.

Of the 7 classrooms possibly only 2 are being used to teach a total of 30-40 children only. This is because the toilets are blocked and the govt has closed the majority of the school down until the community repairs the toilets. The Community has no money as most of Tanzania has been in drought in 2009 and the locals are struggling more than most to make ends meet. Nearest water source is 4km away which takes 30 minutes to walk each way. The school has been offered money by a local businessman to install water access and this may become a part of the project. Children will travel up to 5km to get to this school if it was re-opened and fully functional.

As the village is very poor and with no proper accommodation, volunteers will be living in individual tents the entire 2 weeks of stay.

We, who live in Canada have it pretty good where water is everywhere, wasted and take it for granted.

I?m asking for your help to make this mission a successful one and to put a smile on the village of Lotima. Every little bit help and your support is greatly appreciated.

My colleague and I are hosting a BBQ Fundraising event at Kits Beach this Saturday, Aug. 28th starting at 12pm and would like to invite you to join us.

For those who are unable to attend but want to support this cause, you can donate online at:

All donations go directly to Childreach International. Childreach International will then email you your receipt as soon as you?ve completed your online donation.

A BIG THANK YOU to all who?ve donated! This means a lot to me.

Best Regards,
Kaye Bedford
