February Vegan Potluck: Be Red!

Grand Rapids Vegan Potluck is the place where you can find the best plant-based cruelty free meals in the world. Be creative with some new ingredients that you have never tried. In order to make this potluck a little bit more fun, please use "Red" anywhere in your food. February has Valentine's day so let's bring some love and passion into our foods!

Don't forget to invite your Veg Curious friends and family too!!!

Here is the reminder of our potluck rule.

1. Our potluck is always animal products or animal by-products free. That means no meats, no eggs, no dairy. Please check the ingredients carefully on the label if you use any pre-made ingredient.

2. Please bring your own serving utensil, plate, silverware if possible. I will always have some extra disposable plates and forks, yet bringing your own works the best. Save the Earth!!

3. Please bring the name of your dish and the recipe note. You can upload your recipe on "More" (It is located at main menu bar next to Discussion). There is a sub menu called "File" and you can save your recipe there. This way, anyone can download your recipe and try it at home. If you know the source, it would be plus to indicate where you get that recipe from.

4. Keep your RSVP accurate. If you can't make it or decide to come at last minute, please update your status online. This way, we know how many people will be at the potluck. Plus I can arrange seating properly :)

5. Please invite your non-vegan friends and family. It is always exciting to show Vegans and Vegetarians are not always eating salads everyday.

I really hope I will be able to make this one. I will be using this great book called Color me Vegan, each recipe section is divided by color. Not hard to pick the color for this one :-)

Oh, yes, it is a great book and Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is my favorite vegan chef, author and speaker.

I like the red theme, I just hope that we can keep it as natural as possible. We really try to avoid artificial colors-especially red (and flavors) as mush as possible.

I am pretty sure that everyone feels the same, I have seen many healthy dishes in the past meetings and there is so much red in nature :-)

Meghan, you are absolutely right. I will make another announcement for the natural ingredient :)

I'd love to try to make it. I'm just a vegetarian so im not sure where to get some ingredients like substitute cheeses. I've never cooked vegan. Where do you buy vegan mayo and or vegan parmesan?

Even though daiya is vegan, it seems like about half the vegans I know hate it, half love it. For other non-home made vegan cheeses, the ratio is closer to everyone hating it. You may want to substitute something else instead of cheese, like top enchiladas with avocado slices and olives when they're done baking, for example. VEgan cheese can ruin your dish or help it, no way to know.
