March Veg meetup workshop: Make your own Kombucha and Kimchi

If you believe the health benefits of probiotics, this workshop is just for you. Many people take probiotic supplements nowadays, yet you can easily introduce "good" bacteria into your body through fermented foods such as kombucha, kimchi, miso, sauerkraut, etc.

At this workshop you will learn how to make Kombucha and Kimchi.

Kombucha:

Mike and Marce will share their tips and know-how on how to make flavored kombucha in your own home. Yup! Now you don't have to spend 3 to 4 dollars for each little bottle anymore!!Mike and Marce have been brewing Kombucha for about 2 years now.

They brew many different flavors like: Ginger/Tumeric Green tea, (great as an anti-inflammatory, Green/ hibiscus ,( very refreshing) Black/ sassafras Black/ chocolate mintBlack/ blood orange tea Kombucha. They will have samples of these kombucha teas for you to sample.

You can also buy your first kombucha kit at cost. This will be pre ordered so please let us know if you want to get your homemade kombucha kit after the class.

Kimchi:

Kim Kyunghee from South Korea will teach you how to make Korean kimchi (vegan version!!)

Kimchi is Korea's trademark and this might be your once in a life time chance to learn how to make authentic kimchi from a native Korean!!!

Here is a short bio of this Month workshop instructors.

Mike:

Since I started working in my grandmother's restaurant at age 13, I developed a passion for preparing good food. In 2011 after watching Forks over Knives and Frankensteer I realized that the food in my life could  be much more than just a food. At that time I made the decision to become a mostly Vegan and always vegetarian.

Marce:

I am an educator. My motto is "use food as medicine". I have a passion for health! I have been vegan for 2 1/2 years, prior to that I was vegetarian for 10 years. I feel that knowledge Is a great gift to pass on to others! I love learning, and teaching others. Making the kombucha is a great way to add non dairy probiotics to your life.

Kim:

I am a Grand Rapids Veg Meetup organizer and a wellness coach to help people tansition their diet to a plant based diet. One of my passions is to publish "Vegan Asian Cook Book" and vegan kimchi is absolutely one of my top recipes.

I posted a pic of mine. Haven't tasted it yet because I wanted to chill it. I put some of it in a sealed bottle with dried cherries to see if I can get some fizz action.

I sooo wanted to learn how to make kimchi, but I have to be out of my old office and into my new one by the end of the weekend and I haven't even started moving yet. Hopefully it'll be offered again.

I totally forgot the cheesecloth on top for the night and sealed it! I remembered first thing in the morning so hopefully it's not ruined. I do the kefir the same way so I don't know what I was thinking!
