Vegan Thanksgiving Potluck

Greetings!

Vegan Chicago's second annual vegan Thanksgiving potluck will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Kilbourn Park Field House!

We will be located on the 2nd floor (go up the stairs to your left after entering through the main doors). At the top of the stairs, guests can stop at the check-in table to pick up a name tag.

Kilbourn Park is charging us for the private room we'll be occupying and, to help offset the cost, a pre-pay fee of $5.00 is required per person via Amazon Payments at the time the RSVP is submitted.

Potluck guidelines can be found here but in short, attendees should bring the following:

• A vegan dish with serving utensil(s)

• The name of your dish and a list of ingredients

• A place setting for yourself and each guest who accompanies you

• Drinks: Bring your own beverage(s). Alcohol is not permitted.

If you RSVP 'Yes', and if you know what you're bringing, please note such in the comment section of the event page.

We will have access to a small kitchen that includes a refrigerator, sink, and stove. In addition, there are a number of electrical outlets in the room where we'll be dining, and crock pots are welcome. If you plan to use one of the outlets, you may want to consider bringing an extension cord in the event one is needed.

Note: If you're not vegan or if you're new to being vegan, the following is a resource you may find useful: http://www.vegfamily.com/lists/animal-ingredients.htm.

Please consider joining us for this celebration of fabulous food and camaraderie!

Hope to see you there!

Debra

The food was totally awesome. I love the venue as well. It's easy to access and lots of parking for those of us who live far. Thanks Debra for all your volunteer effort I truly appreciate it. My favorite dish were the potato mushroom Gnochi, and Dennis' pumpkin pie.

Will there be hot plates, microwaves, or some other means of reheating our hot dishes when we arrive? And if not, are there electrical outlets for us to plug in our own hot plates?

    1 · November 15, 2013

    • Debra

Fran, the small kitchen we'll have access to does not include a microwave. There are electrical outlets for our use in the space we'll occupy, and crock pots, hot plates, etc. are welcome. If you have one, you may want to consider bringing an extension cord.

Do I need to bring plates etc for others or me and my guest? Or will that be provided? I'm assuming I just bring the dish I'm making and serving spoon. This is my first meet up so I'm not sure how it works. Thanks!!!

    November 12, 2013

    • Dave D.

Lori, "place setting" in the description above refers to plate, utensil, cup, napkin etc. So yes, please bring your own. Here's a pro tip: bring a tupperware container to use a plate so you can easily store your fork n such in it. The enclosure also makes it easy to pile on food and you'll want to do that, a lot! :) There's sure to be plenty of delicious items.

Hey, I want to add Shani to my RSVP, but it won't let me add a +1 without canceling my initial RSVP. Can I just bring $5 cash to the potluck, or would you prefer I cancel and re-RSVP? Thanks!

    October 19, 2013

    • Debra

Adam, I just added +1 to your RSVP for Shani, so you can submit your Amazon payment for her.

What is the RSVP cut-off date, if there is one? I'd like to go, but can't pre-pay until the week of the event (it's a 5-week month for SSDI from Oct. to Nov.). Thanks! :)

    October 19, 2013

    • Debra

Kimberly, I didn't set an RSVP deadline, and you'll be fine the week of the event if the attendance cap hasn't been met when you're ready to RSVP.

      1 · October 19, 2013

  • Fran

Should we all bring an entree/side AND dessert?

    October 19, 2013

    • Debra

Fran, each person should minimally bring a single vegan dish approximately equivalent to six servings. If a member is bringing guests, the servings should be adjusted accordingly. Some folks contribute one item and others like to bring multiple items. The aim is to have a somewhat balanced mix of entrees/sides/desserts, which is why it's helpful if attendees share what they're bringing so the scale doesn't tip too heavily in any one direction.

      October 19, 2013

    • Fran

Then I'll bring a green bean casserole.

      1 · October 19, 2013

  • Marielle

We'll bring pumpkin oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and a Field Roast Celebration Roast. Maybe something else too, like sparkling juice.

    1 · October 18, 2013

  • Debra

I'll bring a crock pot full of blended mashed russet and sweet potatoes with garlic, a to-be-determined dessert, and possibly cranberry-orange sauce.
