Los Angeles Vegan Drinks 1 Year Anniversary Party!!! We found a cool bar downtown called The Must Bar that has a number of impressive VEGAN items on the menu, from Simple salad / Farmers Market Veggies / General Tso Fu (must get the tofu grilled or plain they use egg to bater it) / tater tots / soft pretzel / and portobella sliders (must get on the vegan bread) & they have a Vegan Fluffernutter Dessert. Its a beer and wine place with seemingly every wine also offered by the glass. Check out the menu's here - http://www.themustba r.com/menu.html http://www.themustba r.com/wine.html (We need help sorting out the vegan wines! If anyone can pin point a few sure bets that would be awesome!) http://www.themustba r.com/beer.html (ditto) No cover charge - just show up and socialize! P.S. Welcome back Lex! (Thanks!) Jason and I previewed the Must Bar this Saturday and its a really hip venue. There are plenty of garages and meters to park at. The best part is the happy hour menu! $3 beers and glasses of wine and deals on tater tots and soft pretzels! Incredible prices! We are going to have a blast! We'd also like to point out that the LA/Santa Monica Walk For Animals is earlier this day. (10am Santa Monica City Hall) http://www.walkforfa rmanimals.org/fliers 09/CA_SantaMonica_Wa lkflier.pdf Here is the flier.

Confirmed: We are going to meet Saturday night at 9:30PM after the fundraising banquet. The meetup will take place at the hotel bar. If we get there slightly before 9:30, we will have a chance to steal all the good seats at the bar! I just visited the bar tonight and there is plenty of space. I'll find a place to put up the signs so people can connect with each other. We'll either be on the couches lining the bar or on the couches in the lobby area, or both. The hotel bar validates parking, giving you 2 hours free and $6 for the hour after that. Otherwise parking is $6 for the first hour, $5 for the next hour, and so on. In other words, parking could get pretty expensive unless you validate at the hotel bar. If you're interested in attending the conference, call 800-632-8688 and identify yourself as a member of Vegan Drinks. You will be entitled to a $20 discount from the $160 full registration fee. This will be a good opportunity to mingle with people attending the conference, as well as introduce LA people at the conference to Vegan Drinks. See you there!

We'll meet at the Desert Rose restaurant, a brand-new place in Los Feliz. As you might notice from the pictures their website, they are not a vegan restaurant, but they are going to bring in Daiya cheese pizzas made especially for us from Cruzer Pizza next door. They may also have a vegan salad available. As part of Farm Sanctuary’s Veg for Life Campaign on “veg for life”, Cruzer Pizza removed veal from their restaurant and replaced it with a large menu of compassionate vegan pizzas. Cruzer Pizza is the first and only establishment in the Western U.S. to be serving the revolutionary Daiya cheese. If you haven’t seen the pictures of stretchy, melty Daiya cheese yet, you are in for a mouth-watering treat. It will freak you out when you eat it: http://tinyurl.com/n m4jzu The restaurant has a large bar and seating inside, and a large outdoor patio seating area. Some of us will likely be seated at tables, while others will be mingling by the bar and stealing vegan pizza slices from other tables. I think they are going to reserve a special section just for us. For those concerned about their health, the Desert Rose has an organic martini, which of course will combine perfectly with the pizza in your stomach. This meetup was deftly put together by Michelle Sass, the California Advocacy Organizer for Farm Sanctuary. I will also be there standing in for Lex again until he gets back, making sure people find us and whatnot. See you there!

More info to come, but we'll be holding the May Vegan Drinks at WorldFest in their Beer and Wine Garden. Here's the details on the upcoming major vegan event! (Los Angeles, CA) --- The ninth WorldFest, a solar-powered festival that boasts multiple stages of music, speakers covering the environment, animals, health and social consciousness will be held at Woodley Park in Encino on Saturday May 16, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Created out of the desire to bring a compassionate and earth-friendly lifestyle to the broadest possible audience, WorldFest is expected to welcome over five thousand visitors. The daylong festival will be filled with music, celebrities, environmental speakers, educational booths, 100s of exhibitors, kids activities, animal adoptions, and an earth-friendly vegan food court. WorldFest features over 20 musical acts on three stages. Genres include rock, reggae, bluegrass, Latin, rock, and world music featuring local bands and international musicians. “With some of L.A.’s finest musicians, great food, and hundreds of exhibits, we are expecting an even larger crowd than years past,” said Billy Hulting, Co-Producer and Entertainment Director. The main stage will also feature a number of special guest speakers and celebrities. Pastcelebrities and speakers have included, Alicia Silverstone, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Nealon, Ed Begley Jr., James Cromwell, Rikki Rocket from Poison, Animal Planet’s Matt Gallant, Constance Marie, Corey Feldman and environmental leaders, John Robbins, Julia Butterfly Hill, and Paul Watson. Invited speakers are world-renowned authors and leaders in environmental and animal protection, health, and sustainable living. The very popular EcoTent includes informative discussions, products, and hands-on ideas for things you can do, large and small to help the earth and in the process actually save money. Displays will show positive ecological ideas for the home and how our habits affect the health of the planet. The Healthy Hut showcases speakers discussing easy, innovative ways to make changes that are healthy, economical, and promote longevity. “We are very excited at the change that we’ve witnessed in the past couple of years and with ‘green’ really catching on, we expect that there are many newcomers curious to join our festival,” said Jill Hahn Co-Producer and Director of the festival. “Because WorldFest is run completely on solar-power and we are striving for zero waste at our event, we are really embracing new technology for a more sustainable and cruelty-free planet.”

Alibi is a nifty looking new bar in Culver City. The Kogi People have taken over the Kitchen and are serving up Vegan Tacos / Lotus Root Chips / etc. Chef Roy may even do a Vegan Special for the day for us~~~ They have a really good selection of beer and even some Organic. Vegan drinks is growing and growing and Alibi is a fun hip bar that has the word 'vegan' on their menu. Our crowds always mix and mingle flawlessly. Singles have turned to doubles, groups of friends expand, business connections are made, and plenty of VEGAN VENTING takes place! My favorite part of Vegan Drinks (in addition to meeting so many cool people) is hearing each persons personal vegan finds around town or on the net. Here is the menu; http://www.alibiroom la.com/menu.php Vegan Sesame Leaf Tacos / Lotus Root Chips. I emailed Chef Roy to see what else he could whip up and he's said he could do a Vegan Special for the day, too. I'll also give the Green Truck people a heads up so we can try the Mother Trucker Vegan Burger. Also, if we get a large enough crowd its possible we might be able to convince the Frankenstand Vegan Hot Dog Truck to come and then we'll be in Vegan Food Cart Nirvana! PS. If anyone who comes to this meetup posts on Vegan-LA.com I am good for a free beer to the first 5 posters who show up. Note: Kogi Tofu Taco's Corn Tortilla contains Lard.

Ok, so we had about 20 people who are on the wait list for the Locali event (small venue 25 was max we could fit) and its just beer and wine samples, etc and we're all going to head somewhere afterward to keep the party going. I've finally narrowed down that somewhere and its Sante La Brea. Chef Tigre has put together a Vegan Cocktail Menu just for us! (see below) So meet us there, bring as many friends as you like. Sante's whole menu can be done vegan and there is Mamma Z's Thai Kitchen in a separate kitchen inside Sante that is completely vegan. LA VEGAN DRINKS COCKTAIL MENU (all drinks shaken with SOJU, sweet potato rice wine) First Kiss Chocolate Strawberry Mojito Lime Mint Agave Sex on the Beach Pineapple Melon Cranberry Mon Cheri Cherry Peach Spiked Lemonade Lemon Agave TIGER Melon Cranberry Iced Tea Sorry for the last minute finalization on this one! Hope to see everyone there! As always if there are any volunteers who want to help organize Vegan Drinks in the future HIT ME UP!!! March and April ideas are floating around already. Lets talk about it tomorrow night! Regards, Lex Vegan-LA.com

We're doing a CLOSED DOOR Red Velvet Rope (kidding) event at Locali the new Hollywood Conscious Convenience Store (open from 7am to 11pm). They stock an amazing variety of vegan eats and beers and wines. -Vegan Drinks will be providing some Wine & Beer samples along with Sheese and Crackers, Locali will be adding to the party with Vegan Cavi*art & other goodies. Its going to be a fun event and Locali is beyond cool! If you've been to our past events you know we draw an extremely hip & fun crowd of happy social vegans who like to chat it up and experience new vegan eats. If you live or work near Hollywood you HAVE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! http://www.localiyou rs.com Its like a 7-11 but if you replaced everything with organic eco vegan friendly products. They have prepared foods from several vegan restaurants in the area, too. ONLY 20-25 people can attend. IF YOU ARE NOT ON THE RSVP list people do not try to crash the party because we can not allow more people in due to fire code. IF YOU CAN NOT ATTEND please remove yourself from the RSVP list or email me so we can make room for someone else. Afterward we'll all head down to the closest vegan restaurant to continue the fun. If you end up missing out on the RSVP I'll try to get a consensus on which Vegan restaurant we'll head to and email it out to everyone on the 28th so you can still join in the fun.
