VEGAN DRINKS WINE TASTING - Updated Info! SPACE WILL BE SEVERLY LIMITED
Saturday, November 15, 2008 1:00 AM
I stopped by the Venice Whole Foods and checked out the wine bar. There are 10 seats (total capacity is 12) BOOO. But they are super friendly and jazzed about doing a vegan tasting for us. I know very little about wine accept for the fact that most of it is "fined" with Fish Bladder (Fish Gelatin) which collects to all the particles and drops down to the bottom of the barrel. Vegan wines use Bentonite Clay to achieve the same effect. I know Frey Vineyards is a 100% organic vegan winery, but I haven't been too impressed with their early wines.
At the wine tasting on 11/29 we'll have 5 bottles of wine and each pour can only be 2 oz so it'll be entertaining and interesting to learn about Vegan Wines from the Sommelier. If we get a good one they can tell us how the vines are fertilized, info about the soil, etc. Also, we're looking into some vegan food platters.
I'm assuming Kristin & are going to fill spaces 1&2 leaving 10 seats available. I'm not really certain what the interest level will be seeing as its around the holidays, but those with an extreme interest in Wine please send me an email so I can make sure we don't bump you. I'm not going to reset the meet up until I've heard from everyone (and have Whole Foods set in STONE) and then I'll clear it out and leave up the open spaces.
If there is a TON of interest +20 who want to go we can always see about doing two nights, or a repeat in December. Sorry in advance for not being able to accommodate the whole crew on this one, but its such a unique opportunity to learn about Vegan Wine I can't pass it up!
My assumption is that everyone is going to be out of town/entertaining family and I'll be lucky to have 10 people show up!
Looking forward to hearing from everyone. Hope you all have a happy ThanksLIVING! www.thanksliving.com (my site that I seriously need to update!)
