Hi there! I have been vegetarian for just over 6 years now and vegan for just over 1 year. I go to UH Manoa and have lived in Honolulu since August 2011 and love it so far!
I am a member of the Vegetarian Society of Hawai'i and saw a sign-up sheet at one of their talks.
Vegan (no dairy, eggs, honey)
I like being vegan because I feel that it gives me a greater opportunity to see what else is out there food-wise. I have several reasons for being vegan, including health reasons, environmental reasons, and of course, animal rights. Also, I have been vegetarian for so long, at this point I figure why stop now? It has become hard for me to imagine my life with eating meat again.
I want to interact with people who understand my views on food, and why it is good to not eat animal products. There have been countless times where I have been made to feel stupid for being a vegan and wish that other people would respect my decisions. People always are trying to "convert" me back and I have almost given in, and all I have wished for is the company of people who can share my views instead of put them down.
Anything that looks interesting is good with me! Of course eating out, but also cooking classes and picnics, anything outdoors-y would be good. Since I've got class and work I'm usually free on the weekends, and preferably somewhere close to campus, or at least downtown, would be doable for me.

Hay, it's nice to see a friend on here. Let me know if you want to go to an event together. I'm still kinda confused but interested in this groups activities. Oh and let me know about the vegan stuff.
Hi Erin, Thanks for joining! I'm sorry for the very late reply. I want to catch up with any members I haven't had a chance to meet with yet. I'm a grad student too, at architecture. Are you still at Manoa? Well, I don't think we have met yet, I hope we'll meet at an upcoming origami session. If you ever have questions about origami, just let us know! Ever you ever want to meetup on campus anywhere to fold, let us know too!
