Meet Medicine Woman (NAC), Bernie McCullough, Naturapath / Raw Vegan Potluck

This month’s social is in for a special treat as our guest speaker for this month, Bernie McCullough, ND and Medicine Woman (NAC) will discuss and demonstrate how the lymphatic drainage massage can boost the immune system, as well as help the body ward off illness.  Bernie’s unique practice of lymphatic drainage is not only a relaxing and healing technique, but also very educational.  She teaches you how to take care of your own lymphatic system and the benefits you will receive from it.

Considered the “river of life”, our lymph system is the secondary sewer system of the body.  The efficient lymph system sweeps toxins from around our cells, filters out germs and cleans our blood, ensuring that the toxic substances reach the liver for cleansing and then exit to the kidneys for elimination.  If your lymph flow is weak, the toxins stay in your nodes and vessels longer leaving you at a high risk for inflammation.

So how do you improve your lymph health? Come to our social to get the facts.

The social time will start at 6:30 pm and we will begin eating at 7:00 pm. We will begin the discussion around 8:00 on “Improving Lymphatic Health”. You have the option to attend both the potluck and discussion or select one or the other.  Also, feel free to stop in to meet fellow raw foodists, socialize for a bit or tour the new facilities.

Please bring your smile, a hungry appetite, and a raw vegan (organic if possible) dish that has not been heated over about 110 degrees to share with 6-8 people. If you are a creative type then by all means invent something really unique.  If you are a newbie or a more simple foods oriented individual then just stop at the market and pick up something raw and fresh that you think will suit.  If you are coming as a couple, please bring an extra large, double, or a second entree. If you are coming directly from work and can't bring anything, please still come, as your friendship is of most importance and we usually have plenty of food for everyone.

It is appreciated that you bring your own setting if possible along with a serving utensil to serve with your entree.  If you forget or don't have everything, there will be extra settings and utensils.

The Office Atrium is conveniently located on Route 82 near I-77 between Broadview and Brecksville Roads.  We are meeting in the 1st floor lobby. There is plenty of free parking around the building with handicap parking close to the entrance doors.  The western side of the building has the closest entrance to the lobby.

A special message from Sandie is: "Because this is an all plant based raw vegan (mostly organic) gathering I would ask everyone to respect the request to keep the potluck just that.  No animal flesh or animal by-products, please. And no cooked vegan or processed vegan food, please. We are all about being vegan and raw.  Fresh, ripe, vegan, raw and organic (if possible).  Also, please refrain from using colognes and perfumes being considerate of those with sensitivities and allergies." Thank you for understanding.

We all enjoyed the great food and wonderful company. Welcome to all those first time attendees. I hope you come again soon! Thank you to everyone for the delicious food you shared with all. It is inspiring to share recipes and information with others. Bernie gave a fascinating presentation on the lymphatic system, the path that this system takes in our bodies and how to keep things flowing naturally to remove the toxins and heal any inflammation. If anyone wants more information on this important topic, call Gloria at[masked] or Bernie McCullough, Naturapath at[masked]-5848. Your body will thank you with greater energy!

Avocado and Herb Salad with fresh basil dressing
      For the Salad:
      2-4 cups mixed field greens
Handful of torn basil leaves and/or other assorted herbs of choice
      1 avocado, sliced
      1 ripe tomato, sliced
¼ cup sunflower or hemp seeds

      For the Dressing:
      ¼ cup fresh basil
¼ cup raspberry vinegar (or flavor of your choice)
      1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
      1 clove garlic
      ¼ teaspoon sea salt
      ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked pepper

Process the above ingredients in a blender until smooth. To keep it oil free, add more vinegar of your choice for desired consistency. If oil is desired, gradually add ¾ cup cold pressed olive oil with the blender running in a slow steady stream to emulsify. When serving salad, drizzle over salad.

Do you eat olives? I need a few ideas.

Olives are fine. Yes, beans, legumes and grains are fine if they are soaked, sprouted or dehydrated. Do not worry if you don't get it all correct. We are here to learn from each other, share ideas and support one another. Salads are always a good option. I could send a recipe if you would like.
