Raintree - with a big twist and a medium twist

Today, we'll go up to Raintree, a huge 3000 year old Bristlecone pine tree, located at the bottom of Mummy's Toes, with fabulous views of Mt.Charleston, Griffith Peak, and Kyle Canyon. The big twist will be going up a beautiful canyon very few know about. It will challenge you, but we'll take our time going up. Most of the way up, we'll be in an incredible bristlecone forest.

Then, to further eliminate any time on the regular trail, the medium twist kicks in as we'll take Wildhorse Canyon down. If you haven't been there, it is a beautiful and magical place.

Anyone can take the regular trail, today you'll have the chance to see new things, and experience something most hikers will never experience.

Hike will be 5-6 miles, with 1600' of gain. Pace will be moderate, and there will be no rock scrambling.

Temperature on hike will be 30 degrees cooler than Las Vegas.

Bring 2 quarts of water, and lunch.

Don't forget your windbreaker, camera, and sense of adventure.

We loved the weather with the fog banks. It was so different to the brigth ligth of LV.
The hike was more demanding that the others, but as the saying "what doen't kill you, make you stronger"

    thank you, Jack

Great workout. Great group. Very steep climb. Good weather, but we almost got rained out.

I want to go but I am afraid that my Achilles' tendon can't handle that far of a hike yet. It is slowly healing. I better not risk it.
