Nancy wrote this message below: Dear Advocates, The day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Animal Advocates nationwide know it as "Fur Free Friday," a day to remind consumers not to buy fur or fur trim and educate people about the horrific fur industry. A huge percentage of fur imported from China to the U.S. is dog and cat fur. It is used for fur trim, trinkets and fur coats. So that fur on your jacket may be dog or cat fur. There are no laws regulating the fur trade, so it is often mislabeled as other species, even as faux fur. Fur products sold in the U.S. are not required to have a label that tells consumers that they are buying real fur, the species, or the country that the animal was killed in. Every year, millions of animals (including fox, beaver, raccoon, chinchilla) just to name a few are beaten to death, strangled, gassed, or more commonly, vaginally or anally electrocuted. Sadly, there are no federal laws to protect these innocent animals. All for the sake of vanity. Please join local animal advocates for a peaceful anti-fur demonstration. When: Friday, November 26, 2010 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Where: On the northwest corner of Spring Mtn. Blvd. and Las Vegas Blvd. outside the Fashion Show Mall (3200 S. Las Vegas Blvd.) by Nieman Marcus. Posters and leaflets will be provided, as well as banners that we will need activists to hold. We are non-radical, and this will be a peaceful event. If you'd like to participate, please take note of the following: * Please be courteous and approachable at all times. We want people to accept the literature we are handing out. * Please do not block pedestrian traffic. * Please do not smoke during the event *Please do not bring pets of any kind, even in dog bags. * Please do not use vulgar language or argue with passersby (even when provoked.) We need to be professional at all times. * Please give yourself plenty of time to find parking. There is an outdoor parking garage at the west end of the mall. The Treasure Island Casino across the street also has self parking. For more information on the fur issues, the following web sites are available:

Excellent event - and we got covered by two local TV stations: channel 8 and channel 13. We definitely caused a stir with people at our demo spot and many fliers / information talks were given to people. Great impact!

Awesome...News coverage....we just need to add when we talk to the news that we are there for awareness and will continue until everyone is aware of the suffering that animals endure. It is more than a statement. It is reality.
I would like to make some double sided that we can walk with so both sides are visible. I would also like to make a banner that says...we would rather go topless than wear fur. (this way we can leave our pants on and more women will join in)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
