VegKC Restaurant Meetup - Blue Nile Ethiopian Buffet

If you RSVP show up.

Blue Nile is located in the City Market and offers some interesting options.  The food is somewhat adjusted to the American pallet, while not quite as authentic it does equate to some good home cooked dishes.

Blue Nile offers plenty of vegan menu options (over half the menu), including a platter that offers all the choices at once. Typical of Ethiopian food, there are no forks or spoons; instead, you scoop up the assorted dishes (which are similar to Indian food, perhaps a little less spicy, for those of you who've never had Ethiopian cuisine), using a spongy injera bread made from teff grain (not gluten free). They generally have an assortment of interesting items with a variety of flavors. You can't go wrong here. Blue Nile's website includes a menu.

We sometimes order off the menu, but this time around have setup a buffet with them.   We anticipate the price being approximately 11.50.

Please - respect the RSVPs, if you choose to come you must RSVP and SHOW UP! We understand that life happens and if you might not make it - please update your RSVP to no and join us next time instead! This is absolutely necessary to keep events free and work with venues.

I thoroughly enjoyed the event. I made a lot of new friends and caught up with some old ones, which is always my primary reason for attending.

Hey guys! I'm going about thirty minutes early to get some produce from the vendors. Anyone else want to come along and talk about the magic of kale?

    May 11, 2013

    • Leslie Y.

You'll be setting up though, right?

Since this was my first time eating Ethiopian food, the fantastic buffet was a great introduction to the many dishes and tastes available. Excellent.

Hi all! Ive never been in a meetup "event".. Should I just go inside and ask the restaurant staff where you all would be?

    May 11, 2013

    • Michael J.

It's a small restaurant, we should be very obvious, but yes, you can ask them.

If it weren't Mother's Day weekend and I didn't have a hair appointment tomorrow, I would be there. Have fun, everyone! Maybe next time.

Hi everyone. I went to dinner at Affare (German restaurant) at 1911 Main St and when I spoke to the chef/owner Martin Heuser he said he'd be happy to prepare a vegan/vegetarian menu for the meetup group anytime. The web site is is www.affarekc.com

Christine, thanks for the heads up... will have to drop in there sometime and check it out. German restaurants aren't usually easy to do vegan, but if the chef is happy to do something for us that could be very cool. :)

Agree - he made me a plate of roasted baby veggies, quinoa w/ red coulis, and lentils. I was impressed.

There are a couple of raw food meetups in the area. I'm assuming you've looked into them? Both FuD and Cafe Gratitude do some out of the ordinary raw dishes. The Van Benthusens run one of the meetups - their website is: http://www.greenstgoo...

I have to change my RSVP, as I now have an event in Peculiar Missouri @ a wine & cheese tasting, where I will be selling unique rings made from vintage buttons. They will be there for the month, at Wellington's Wine & Cheese in Peculiar. :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
